Couples to perform FOUR dances in Dancing with the Stars Finals

ABC has just released the details of the final stage of season 11.

The three couples (Bristol/Mark, Kyle/Lacey, Jennifer/Derek) will have to dance four times over two nights before finding out who will take home the Mirror Ball Trophy. In recent seasons they danced twice, eliminated one couple and then the final two perform one last time.

On Monday night each couple will perform a "redemption dance". This is a dance chosen by the judges on the basis that they didn't do it very well the first time. (No word on whether the monkey suit will return). That will be followed by the always entertaining freestyle dance – no rules.

On Tuesday each couple will perform their favorite dance of the season. This will be followed by another "Instant Dance" – the couples will perform a Cha Cha to music they only receive after the show starts. It worked pretty well a couple of weeks ago.

The judges' scores from the four dances will be combined with the viewers' votes from the night before and after some interminable waiting we'll find out who the champions are!

As well as lots of waiting and filler all but one of the season 11 contestants will return (not sure who the "one" is (shouldn't they have kept the final week free just in case?). Alsp Christina Aguilera will perform two songs – one from her upcoming move "Burlesque" (Julianne Hough is in that!) and "Beautiful".

Given the extra attention generated by the elimination of Brandy and Maks it's going to be interesting to see if viewership will be up or down!

  1. Excellent! 4 chances for the judges to judge Bristol easier than Kyle and Jennifer as they have done all season to assure her victory! It's the finals and she should be judged as strictly as everyone else, but that hasn't stopped the judges all season, even last week in the semi finals when Palin missed steps and danced with the panache of a whale and was given 9's! And is this not a finals custom designed against Jennifer the only decent dancer left in the competition? She is nearly crippled while Palin and Kyle are young and healthy but will be expected to dance FOUR dances in the finals for the first time? And you can bet she will be judged hyper critical unlike Palin. Sure viewership will be just fine this final week. But ABC Better hope the tea party grows a bunch before next season because they will be the only ones watching. And the other 330 million of us will be watching something else!

  2. FOUR dances in the finals? You're right Terry another ABC BBC America attempt to make sure their baby Bristol wins. Lots of easy judging for BP and lots of difficult dances for Jennifer and Kyle. If they didn't want to be accused of rigging the competition they would have left the finals as they were. Now the attempt to rig it in BP's favor is crystal clear!

  3. Really? More chances for Bristol to win? It's an obvious "out" so they can see how much more they have to put her behind so they can make up for the fan votes.

If they wanted her to win, they would give them all 9's, but they are actively trying to give it to Jennifer, with all 10's, even though the second dance wasn't really much dancing and a lot of her standing around...

Because there is pretty good separation in the judges' scores (60-52), then can see where the fan votes put them and then "get away" with not having to ding Bristol as much as they might have. Although they may still have to give her 24's or less while Jennifer gets 60 more points. I guarantee it... :)
