The Finale - Live(ish)

I'm not able to dedicate myself to covering the Finale but here are the main things that happened:

Shawn and Derek did the spotlight dance with their freestyle

Dance Center!

Instant dance:

Kelly/Val - Cat & Mouse Jive
Melissa/Tony - Life is a Highway Samba
Shawn/Derek - Respect Cha Cha

The couples have an hour to practice their routine.

Drew Lachey danced with his daughter (cool).

Repeating the Team dances (with substitutes for the finalists).

The Instant Dances are up!

Kelly and Val - very good, as expected, the timing with the music was a little off - 9.5/9.5/9.5=28.5, Grand Total = 87.5

Melissa and Tony - they really seemed a little tired, danced very well of course - 9.5/9.5/9.5=28.5, Grand Total = 88.5

Shawn and Derek - Derek is really quite brilliant - 10/10/10=30, Grand Total = 87

The couples are on the stage. The third place couple is....Kelly and Val.

That leaves Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough, and Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani.

Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani are the champions of The All Star Dancing With The Stars. Congratulations!

The All Star Finals Are Here! Live Scores!

Good luck to Kelly Monaco, Melissa Rycroft and Shawn Johnson!

Two dances tonight. The first is the couples choice - the dance they think will score the most. Then there is the "Super Size Freestyle" where they can add dancers.

Here are the scores of the couples' choice:

Kelly/Val - Paso Doble - very good but wobbly in parts. The judges were effusive (but that's to be expected of course, it's the finals!) - 9.5/10/10=29.5

Melissa/Tony - Samba - Melissa is really a very good dancer - 10/10/10=30

Shawn/Derek - Quickstep - breaking the rules again, tsk tsk. Carrie Ann and Len weren't happy. Bruno is always happy! - 9/8.5/9.5=27

And now the freestyles:

Kelly/Val - "Time of My Life" from Dirty Dancing - kicked off with Val on his fiddle and Kelly hanging from the ceiling. Then went into a group number. Very enjoyable. Len would have liked more originality. - 10/9.5/10=29.5

Melissa/Tony - Tony chose contemporary. They were very very good technically, but the choreography seemed a bit off to me, a little soul-less. Bruno called it a gem. Carrie Ann said jackpot. Len was speechless. Shows what I know! - 10/10/10=30 (Len wished he had an 11).

Shawn/Derek - Shawn was able to get the Fierce Five to Jon them in their freestyle. Not Derek's best choreography but still the best of the three (to me). Sensational - Carrie Ann. Gold medal performance - Len. Brilliance - Bruno. 10/10/10=30

So, the judges' scores are very close an, as we know, don't really make a huge difference percentage wise.

Tomorrow the couples have an instant dance. Plus there is the normal fun and fillers in the finale!

All Star Semi-Final Results - Live!

So we had the rather strange theme/style dance and the "Bad" dances so now we need to get rid of two couples. We also were treated to Val in a swimsuit. That's all I'm going to say about that.

So, off we go!

First up the spotlight dance. The judges chose Apolo and Karina dancing the Rumba to "Man in the Mirror". Good choice!

Shawn and Derek find their fate first. They must go through!

And yes, they are going to the final.

Next was a lovely girl from New Zealand. She started her dance studio at 17! Hip Hop! Her performance was really very good. Unfortunately I didn't catch her name.

Next was The Wanted singing a couple of their pop tunes.

Two couples are up: Apolo/Karina and Melissa/Tony. One of the them is going home.

Apolo and Karina have been eliminated. Melissa and Tony are in the finals.

Apolo is a class act, the finals would have been better with him.

Before we find out who else is leaving we have other diversions.

Pula Abdul now performs her dream sequence. Some of it is very good, others bits not so much. I think the technology doesn't always live up to its promise.

Derek is up with four dancers he has taken under his wing. Now that was good. Good, plain creativity.

The last two couples are up.

Emmitt/Cheryl and Kelly/Val.

Emmitt and Cheryl are eliminated. A fine competitor Emmitt just didn't have e skill level I guess. And Kelly proves she does have a fan base! (Or Val has a fan base...)

There you have it. The couples in the final are:

Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough
Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani
Kelly Monaco and Valentin Chmerkovskiy

Who's going to win?

All Stars Semi-final Live!

We're at the last but one episode of the Dancing with the Stars All Star season. Due to the Presidential election and the unfathomable decision to include Pamela Anderson to make it 13 contestants we have five couples rather than the oral four.

The couples will dance twice - once to a Michael Jackson song (it's he 25th anniversary of "Bad") and once to a rather strange combination of theme and dance style. We'll see...

NOTE: Double elimination this week!

And here are the scores:

Melissa and Tony - Caveman Hustle - 9/9.5/9=27.5 - fun dance

Shawn and Derek - Knight Rider Bhangra - 10/10/10=30 - excellent - "Call Me Mary" said Len. I have no idea why.

Apolo and Karina - Big Top Jazz - 8.5/9/9.5=27 - seemed a lot of mistakes to me, they seem very uncomfortable. Carrie Ann agreed with me, Bruno thought it was great.

Emmitt and Cheryl - Espionage Lindy Hop - 9/9/9=27 - Fun and very well done

Kelly and Val - Surfer Flamenco - 8/9/8.5=25.5 - oh, very good. Plus they ended up in swimsuits!

The couples then danced to songs from Bad:

Melissa/Tony - Argentine Tango - "Dirty Diana" - 10/10/10=30

Shawn/Derek - Argentine Tango - "Bad" - 9/10/10=29 very very good but a little sterile. Carrie Ann agreed with me, the other two judges didn't. Not that anyone cares what I think!

Apolo /Karina - Rumba - "Man in the Mirror" - 10/10/10=30 - lovely dance. It melted Carrie Ann's heart. "Like the sea" said Len.

Emmitt/Cheryl - Tango - "Leave Me Alone" - 9/9/9=27 - competent

Kelly/Val - Rumba - "I Just Can't Stop Loving You" - 9.5/9.5/9.5=28.5

Two go home tomorrow night and Paula Abdul dances. Can't wait!

Trio Week Results Live!

A double elimination this week! Next week is the Semi-final! Gosh!

Started off with Kyle Minogue singing "Locomotion". Great way to start!

And the first two couples to find out their fate are Melissa/Tony and Shawn/Derek. Melissa got perfect scores last night and Shawn was scolded by Len for their Samba.

Melissa and Tony are in the semis (of course!). Shawn and Derek are through too.

Now a performance by the cast of "Newsies".

And Ne-Yo singing his latest tune.

And now we have Kelly/Val and Kirstie/Maks. One of these are going home I think!

Kirstie and Maks have been eliminated! They were way behind on the judges' scoreboard and their fans just couldn't get them safe.

The couples are now choosing the dance styles and themes for each other. Here's what they got:

Melissa - Caveman/Hustle
Shawn - Knight Rider/Bhangra
Gilles - Mad Monk/Merengue
Apolo - Big Top/Jazz
Emmitt - Espionage/Lindy Hop
Kelly - Surfer/Flamenco

Apparently it will make more sense when we hear the songs!

Now Anna T and Val are dancing with the principals of the New York City Ballet. Really quite lovely.

Three couples left - Apolo/Karina, Gilles/Peta and Emmitt/Cheryl.

Emmitt and Cheryl are safe. The other two couples descend the stairs...

Gilles and Peta have been eliminated! Someone had to go. Shame, he was really looking forward to Michael Jackson week!

Dancing with the Stars Trio Night - Live!

And we start with the tape getting mixed up, plus the live feed looks wonky too!

While I'm waiting...this week each couple will perform a ballroom dance and then a "Trio" dance with an additional professional of their choice.

Votes will be carried over from last week (fusion dance and swing marathon.)

AND it's double elimination!

Emotions will be shining brightly!

Now the technical difficulties are behind us lets get started!

First round is a ballroom dance dedicated to veterans. Here are the scores:

Shawn and Derek - Vienese Waltz - 10/9.5/10=29.5

Apolo and Karina - Tango - 10/9.5/10=29.5

Kirstie and Maks - Viennese Waltz - 9/9/9=27

Kelly and Val - Viennese Waltz - 9.5/9/9.5=28

Gilles and Peta - Quickstep - 9.5/10/10=29.5

Emmitt and Cheryl - Viennese Waltz - 9/9.5/9.5=28

Melissa and Tony - Quickstep - 10/10/10=30

And now the Trio dances:

Shawn/Derek/Mark - Samba - 10/7/9=26

Apolo/Karina/Sasha - Jive 9.5/9.5/10=29

Kirstie/Maks/Tristan - Paso Doble - 8/8/8=24

Kelly/Val/Louis - Jive - 9.5/9.5/9.5=28.5

Gilles/Peta/Chelsie - Salsa - 9.5/10/9.5=29

Emmitt/Cheryl/Kym - Salsa - 10/10/10=30

Melissa/Tony/Henry - Paso Doble - 10/10/10=30

Two go home tomorrow!

Fusion Live Scores

Week 7 of Dancing with the Stars All Stars has seven couples dancing "fusion" ie two styles combined. They are also competing in a swing marathon.

Due to the small matter of a Presidential election the scores and votes will be carried over to next week and no one will be eliminated this week. There will be a double elimination next week!

Also, Derek Hough had a boo boo on his neck so Mark Ballas will be dancing for him this week.

Apolo and Karina - Cha Cha Cha/Paso Doble - 9/9/9=27

Emmitt and Cheryl- Samba/Rumba - 8.5/9.5/9.5=27.5

Kirstie/Maks - Quickstep/Samba - 8/8/8/=24

Kelly/Val - Cha Cha Cha/Foxtrot -9/9/9=27

Melissa/Tony - Tango/Cha Cha Cha - 10/9.5/9.5

Shawn/Derek/Mark - Tango/Paso Doble - 10/10/10=30

Gilles/Peta - Argentine Tango/Samba - 9.5/9.5/9.5=28.5

Swing Dance Marathon - here's the order the celebrities were eliminated and the points they get:

4 - Kirstie
5 - Gilles
6 - Apolo
7 - Emmitt
8 - Shawn
9 - Kelly
10 - Melissa

Two couples go home next week and its looking like Kirstie and Maks will be one of them!

Country Week Results Live

With two weeks worth of scores and votes it's going to be hard to guess who's going home although Kelly and Val are the bottom of the judges' leaderboard (with ripple close above).

Tom just announced that there wouldn't be an elimination next week and any scores will carry over to the week after.

Kelly/Val and Emmitt/Cheryl are up first on the basis of lowest scores. Emmitt is safe. And so is Kelly!

Jason Mraz sung a very nice tune with Mark and Chelsie on the dance floor.

Next up are Shawn/Derek, Gilles/Peta and Kirstie/Maks.

Shawn and Derek are safe.

Gilles and Peta are also safe.

Kirsty and Maks are also safe!

That means the last three couples are Apolo/Karina, Sabrina/Louis and Melissa/Tony.

Time out to choose the fusion dances for next week:

Melissa gets Tango/Cha Cha
Gilles gets Argentine Tango/Samba
Sabrina gets Tango/Foxtrot
Kirstie gets Quickstep/Samba
Shawn gets Tango/Paso Doble
Emmitt gets Rumba/Samba
Kelly gets Cha Cha/Foxtrot
Apolo get Cha Cha/Paso Doble

Time for Taylor Swift! Excellent.

And so to eliminations.

Melissa and Tony are safe.

Sabrina and Apolo are on the stage with their professional partners. Both couples got 30s this season!

Sabrina Bryan and Louis van Amstel have been eliminated from Dancing with the Stars All Stars. After having the highest judges' scores they were eliminated. Wow.

Country Week - Live(ish) Scores

It's Country Week, presumably because ABC is showing the CMAs. There is a group dance and the individual dances as well. The scores from last week will be combined with those from this week too.

All nice and simple... Here are the scores - barebones as there's a slight hurricane here.

Gilles and Peta - Cha Cha Cha - 9/9/9.5=27.5

Sabrina and Louis - Rumba - 10/10/10=30 (it was good!)

Kelly and Val - 9/9/9=27

Melissa and Tony - Viennese Waltz - 9.5/10/10=29.5

Shawn and Derek - Cha Cha Cha - 9.5/8.5/10=28

Kirstie and Maks - Rumba - 9.5/8.5/9.5=27

Apolo and Karina - Viennese Waltz - 10/10/10=30

Emmitt and Cheryl - Foxtrot - 8.5/8.5/9.5=26.5

There was then a group dance where each couple could earn up to 2 "bonus points". It was all a bit of a mess really. Kirstie and Maks got the two bonus points.

Guilty Pleasures Week Night 2 - Live

The second night of Guilt Pleasures week has four couples (who danced the freestyle last night) performing individually and the individual couples from last night performing a freestyle. Confused? I am!

Melissa and Tony - Tango - Toxic/Britney Spears - 9/9/9=27 + 29.5 = 56.5 - it turns out "Toxic" is a Tango - who knew? Some messin' abaht at the beginning and Melissa's wig was annoying but otherwise very good indeed.

Shawn and Derek - Rumba - My Heart Will Go On/Celine Dion - 9/8/10 = 27 + 29.5 = 56.5 - simply lovely. Bruno said it was awesome. Carrie Ann saw a lift. Len didn't like it - it wasn't a Rumba he said. It was still a lovely dance!

Apolo and Karina - Samba - Give It To Me/Rick James - 8.5/9.5/9 = 27 + 29.5 = 56.5 - looked good to me. Carrie Ann was disappointed. Len thought it was super. Bruno liked it too.

Sabrina and Louis - So This Is Love/Cinderella - 10/9.5/9.5 = 29 + 29.5 = 58.5 - lovely dance. Len thought is was lovely too. So did Bruno. Carrie Ann went for elegant.

Team Dance - Gilles/Peta, Kirsty/Maks/ Emmitt/Cheryl and Kelly/Valentin - Freestyle - Gangnam Style/PSY - 9/9/9= 27 - fun, silly, entertaining. The dancing quality was a little variable but otherwise great. Len - Should have come with a health warning. Gilles gave Bruno the towel from around his waist.

Week 5 Live - Guily pleasures and no one goes home

Due to some sort of election there is no elimination this week. Monday sees four couples dance their "guilty pleasure" and the other four perform a team dance. They swap on Tuesday night. There is still voting and scoring - it'll be rolled over to next week.

Kelly and Val - Samba - Want You Back/Cher Lloyd - 8/8/8.5=24.5 - Kelly had a hard week - work during the day, Val (and dance practice) in the evening. Val always seems to have his shirt off. Looks pretty good to this untrained eye. The sexiness is a bit forced at the start though. Len thought there was too much gyrating.

Gilles and Peta - Rumba - I Will Always Love You/Whitney Houston - 10/9.5/10=29.5 - Gosh. What a great show. Acapela to start and big band finish. Bruno thought it was pure theater. Carrie Ann literally fell off her chair while shouting "let the baby making begin". Len thought it was a blockbuster.

Kirstie and Maks - Quickstep - Mrs Robinson/Simon and Garfunkel - 8.5/8.5/8.5=25.5 - It seemed very safe but very competent (and elegant!) too. The judges thought it was her best dance this season.

Emmitt and Cheryl - Samba - Copacabana/Barry Manilow - 9.5/9.5/10=29 - giant parrots! Fun, light footed, enjoyable. Slight mistake at the start. Unstoppable said Len. Bruno was turned on (he said). Carrie Ann said he had the Samba Swagger.

Team Dance - Shawn/Derek, Melissa/Tony, Apolo/Karina, Sabrina/Louis - Freestyle - Call Me Maybe/Carly Rae Jepson - 9.5/10/10=29.5 - Melissa hurt her neck (herniated disk from whiplash) in rehearsals but she was cleared to dance. Very acrobatic, great choreography. Hey Apolo and Karina did some hip hop! Good performance by all. Fantastic said Len. Bruno said great a lot. Carrie Ann did a cheer and didn't fall over.

We get to do it all over again tomorrow night!

The Week 4 Eliminated Couple Is....

...further down the page.

We had some dancing, some of Cheryl's friends turned up, Donnie Osmond, a subdued Susan Boyle, no Paula Abdul and the choosing of the freestyle teams for next week.

The teams were Gilles/Kelly/Kirstie/Emmitt and Shawn/Melissa/Sabrina/Apolo. Bristol was the odd one out but she would replace the couple that was sent home (unless it was her and Mark of course.

The final three couples were Apolo/Karina, Bristol/Mark and Kirstie/Maks.

And Bristol and Mark were eliminated.

DWTS Week 4 Scores Live

Down to nine with the loss of Drew and Helio last week!

This week the couples chose dances for each other which means we should have some interesting routines!

Also, Paula Abdul is the guest judge.

Lifts are allowed and Val has no shirt.

That about covers it - lets get going!

Kirstie and Maks - Charleston - 7.5/7.5/7.5/7.5=30 (Carrie Ann/Len/Paula/Bruno) - some nice footwork from Kirstie. And a cartwheel! Plus a very nice ending with Kirstie swimming on Maks (you had to see it!)

Bristol and Mark - Rock and Roll - 8/8/8/8=32 - it was pretty good. Didn't make any mistakes but didn't take any risks. Kirstie and Maks were better though, no mistake.

Sabrina and Louis - Disco - 9/9/8.5/9=35.5 - a very very good representation of 70s disco! Sabrina's dress was the hero though, nothing popped out under a lot of pressure! Bruno felt she lost timing, and people were unhappy. Paula got ratty at Bruno's shouting. Len loved it. Paula mumbled something. She isn't adding to this.

Emmitt and Cheryl - Bolero - 9/9/9/9=36 - I sill don't know what makes a Bolero a Bolero but this was very good. A little stiff occasionally, but dramatic too. Judges loved it.

Gilles and Peta - Bollywood - 10/9.5/10/10=39.5 - I have no idea if it was any good but I thoroughly enjoyed it! Len loved it. Paula did a Bruno impression (some redemption there). Carrie Ann mentioned Aladdin - not sure why.

Melissa and Tony - Jitterbug - 9/9/9.5/9.5=37 - very good but a little boring too. They messed up slightly in the middle. The judges heaped praise.

Shawn and Derek - Mambo - 10/9.5/10/10=39.5 - excellent choreography, great footwork. The judges liked it too.

Apolo and Karina - Hip Hop - 8.5/9/8.5/8.5= 34.5 - oh dear. Karina fell in the middle and I'm not sure the routine was that good anyway. Karina is very upset. Carrie Ann tried to make Karina feel better. Len told Apolo he was great and flashed some gang signs. Then the judges totally over scored them considering there was a major fall and the second half was a mess.

Kelly and Valentin - contemporary - 9/9.5/9.5/9.5=37.5 - wonderful - an emotional, expressive show. The judges said they liked it too. Although they were a bit like lawyers - non-committal!

Tomorrows results show is at 8pm eastern (darn debate).

Double Elimination Live

Two couples are going home tonight, the couples are choosing the dances for each other and Paula Abdul is coming next week.

Can it get any more exciting?

As expected, Shawn and Derek reprised their totally illegal but totally cool quickstep in the spotlight dance.

The first four to find their fate were Melissa/Tony, Gilles/Peta, Kirsty/Maks, Emmitt/Cheryl.

Kirsty/Maks are in jeopardy, the others are safe.

That's nice. We've got Lacey Schwimmer and Kyle Massey singing to a tune sung by Roberto Moreno.

Next set: Shawn/Derek, Apolo/Karina, Drew/Anna, Kelly/Valentin.

Shawn and Apolo are safe. So is Kelly. Drew is in jeopardy.

Drew and Kirstie on stage learning their fate.

Drew and Anna were sent home. Nice guy. Someone had to go though.

Moving on. We have the list of dances.

Bristol picks Bollywood for Gilles
Kirsty chooses Disco for Sabrina
Helio - Mambo for Shawn
Kelly - Bolero for Emmitt
Melissa - Hip Hop 4 Apolo
Apolo - Jitterbug for Melissa
Emmitt - Contemporary for Kelly
Shawn - Broadway for Helio
Sabrina - Charleston for Kirstie
Bristol had Rick and Roll left

Down to the last three - Bristol/Mark, Sabrina/Louis and Helio/Chelsie.

Helio and Chelsie were eliminated. I thought he would do better but he never really looked comfortable.

Down to nine!

DWTS Week 3 - "Iconic" - Live!

This week the couple have to perform their choice of an "iconic" dance from previous seasons. Plus the celebrity have to choreograph it!

Add to that double elimination, it's going to be a tense evening!

Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya - 8/8/8=24 - Cha Cha Cha - Drew really owned the artistic direction and threw in lots of twists. Good job, and the judges liked it!

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd - 8.5/8.5/8.5=25.5 - Tango - it was pretty obvious that Gilles chose Peta's costume. Sexy! And a bit like a Victorias Secret ad... Gilles is so good, how can he not win? But Shawn beat him in season 8 of course! Couple of missed steps said Bruno, Carrie Ann and Len.

Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani - 9/9/9=27 - Samba - a bit of messin' abaht (as Len would say) at the beginning but otherwise solid with a bit of shakiness at the end. Fantastic said CAI. Like a can of cola observed Len.

Apolo Ohno and Karina Smirnoff - 9/8/8.5=25.5 - Foxtrot - (more fringe pants - ack). Sexy, well executed. I think Apolo suites more action-oriented dances. Sensual said Bruno. Memorable thought Carrie Ann.

Kelly Monaco and Valentin Chmerkovskiy - 9/9/9=27 - Paso Doble - a shirtless Val, 'nuff said. Bruno was tingling. Carrie Ann was breathless. Len thought it was fabulous. And it was.

Tom announced that Paula Abdul will be a guest judge next week.

Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 8/8/8=24 - Cha Cha Cha - based on Carson Kressley's "Moves Like Jaggar". Fun, Maks looked great. A bit stale for me compared to Carson's original.

Sabrina Bryan and Louis van Amstel - 8.5/8.5/8.5=25.5 - Paso - great technique, a little impersonal. The male judges liked it, Carrie Ann agreed with me.

Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke - 8.5/8/8.5=25 - Paso - A bit stiff I thought. Carrie Ann called him a torpedo. Len said he attacked.

Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower - 8.5/8.5/8.5=25.5 - quickstep - again, a little stiff to me and they seemed to mess up in the middle. Carrie Ann spotted it too. Len thought it was good until the "accident".

Tom announced that the couples will have their dance chosen by the other couples. Seems a bit shark-like to me.

Bristol Palin and Mark Ballas - 7.5/7.5/7.5=22.5 - Paso - after a rather contrived argument in the video introduction Mark and Bristol danced on a giant chess board. Bit boring, but she carried off the ice queen thing quite well. Plenty of attack said Len.

Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough - 9/8/9.5=26.5 - Quickstep - now I know what Len feels like. It was very good but it was no quickstep. The Incredibles said Bruno. Carrie Ann said it was one of the best. Fantastic said Len but they have to be docked points.

Week 2 Results - Who Went Home?

Find out at the bottom of the page!

We have Katherine Jenkins and Placido Domingo singing some Opera tunes tonight, and a summary service from me.

Here are the fates of the couples as they found out.

Sabrina Bryan and Louis van Amstel are safe

So are Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke

Drew Lachey and Anna Trebunskaya are safe (he was relieved!)

Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson are in jeopardy.

Tom just announced next week is a double elimination!

Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough are safe (of course)

Kirstie and Maks are safe

Kelly Monaco and Valentin Chmerkovskiy are in jeopardy

Bristol and Mark are safe! (After having the lowest score).

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd are safe

So are Melissa and Tony

Apolo and Karina are safe

Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower are in jeopardy.

So that leaves Joey/Kym, Kelly/Valentin and Helio/Chelsie as the three couples still in jeopardy.

Kelly and Val are safe.

The final two couples descend the stairs.

Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson were eliminated. Joey had a great time, was never gonna win. Shame.

The First All Star To Twinkle Out Is....

Further down the page of course.

The first Results Show of the All Star season has musical guests Justin Bieber (he's quite famous) and Pitbull (looking forward to his performance!), lots of filler and one unlucky couple ( I have to assume its Pam/Tristan but we shall see!)

The first half of the show was a look back at each couple. We then went into the pro/troupe dance - excellent as always.

(Sarah Palin in the house...)

The first four couples are up - Joey, Apolo, Bristol, Shawn.

Shawn and Derek are safe.

As are Apolo and Karina.

Bristol is in Jeopardy.

Joey and Kym are safe.

Pitbull is next debuting his new single, the rather un-imaginatively named "Don't stop the party".

Next up Helio (I thought he was a little hard done by), Drew and Kelly.

Helio and Chelsie are coming back.

Kelly and Val are safe.

Drew and Anna are in jeopardy.

The Troupe then gave us a dance. A fine looking bunch they are.

The next group to learn their fate are Sabrina, Gilles (who's injured by the way) and Emmitt.

Emmitt/Cheryl and Gilles/Peta are safe. Sabrina and Louis misunderstood and thought they were safe. And it turned out they were!

Justin Bieber came out next. His mike was rather large and very off putting. Nice tune though.

The final group - Kirstie, Melissa and Pam.

The next couple coming back is Kirstie and Maks. Then it's Melissa and Tonyin the safe group.

Pamela and Tristan are in jeopardy, joining Bristol/Mark and Drew/Anna.

The next couple safe is Bristol and Mark.

And the couple that is leaving the All Star season first is....Pamela and Tristan.

An expected result. The lowest score and she made some mistakes.

Live All Star Scores!

Emmy-winning Tom Bergeron and a lovely Brooke Burke-Charvet welcomed us to the Dancing with the Stars (first) All Star season.

Congratulations Tom by the way!

Straight into it then (half points this season btw).

Joey Fatone and Kym Johnson - Cha Cha Cha - 6.5/7/7=20.5 - I have to say Joey was looking a little heavy on his feet but the fact that Kym's outfit made her look like belly button fluff distracted people. Len liked the start. Bruno gave him some footwork tips. Carrie-Ann said it was a great way to start the season.

Shawn Johnson & Derek Hough- foxtrot - 8/6.5/7.5=22 - excellent dancing and choreography. Len didn't think it was a foxtrot all the way through but the other two liked it.

Sabrina Bryan and Louis van Amstel - 7.5/7.5/7.5=22.5 - Sabrina just showed she shouldn't have been voted off early in season 5. The judges certainly were happy to see her!

Helio Castroneves and Chelsie Hightower - Foxtrot - 7/7.5/7=21.5 - Helio always looks like a professional - he's so elegant and really seems to enjoy himself. Len didn't like his feet. Bruno thought he messed up a lot. Carrie-Ann wanted more touching.

Pamela Anderson & Tristan McManus - Cha Cha Cha - 5.5/5.5/6=17 - oh dear. Pamela just stood there and shook occasionally. Tristan worked a lot but this wasn't very good. Bruno didn't think there was enough work. Carrie-Ann thought she needed some technique. Len thought it was good she didn't fall over (I think it would have made it better!)

Melissa Rycroft & Tony Dovolani - Foxtrot - 7/7/7=21 - solid performance. Carrie Ann wanted more body contact again. Too theatrical said Len. Excellent said Bruno.

Apolo Anton Ohno & Karina Smirnoff - Cha Cha Cha - 7.5/7/7.5=22 - certainly the most colorful costumes and there was lots of bumping going on. Bronze medal said Len. Bruno thought it looked great. CAI thought he was 3,000 more sexy.

Gilles Marini and Peta Murgatroyd - Foxtrot - 8/8/8=24 - excellent. Bruno wanted to see it again, Carrie Ann missed him, Len liked it too.

Bristol Palin & Mark Ballas - Cha Cha Cha - 6.5/6.5/6.5=19.5 - well she did shake her butt but Mark did most of the work. Better than Pam. Carrie Ann thought she was much improved. Len thought she had more confidence and great legs.

Drew Lachey & Anna Trebunskaya - Foxtrot - 7/7/7.5=21.5 - eh. Too hard and hectic for Len. Bruno loved it. Carrie Ann wants to see firm but not rigid.

Kelly Monaco & Val Chmerkovskiy - Cha Cha Cha - 7/7/7.5=21.5 - better than I expected! She looked great. Bruno thought she was 'otter than evar. Carrie Ann thought they had insane chemistry. Len said she wasn't this good season 1. "Something's going on."

Kirstie Alley & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 6.5/6/6.5=19 - Kirstie has put on a little weight but she can perform! Carrie Ann was nic-ish. Len said she had to lift it to shift it. Bruno liked the looks.

Emmitt Smith & Cheryl Burke - Cha Cha Cha - 8/8.5/8=24.5 - the boy still got it. "You can't teach flair" - Len.

The DWTS Finals Results Show Live

Well, it's live on my TV!

There isn't that much to report on really as the only meaningful things are three new dances and the announcement of the winner.

It's nice to see all of the stars again of course, and we had an excellent opening routine with all of the pros (including the troupe) and the celebrities not in the final.

Donald and Peta's freestyle was the spotlight dance. It really was very good, but isn't it a disadvantage to have to perform an extra time?

Brooke's hair looks much better tonight, last night it looked a little like a rat's nest!

Sherri Shepherd and Val gave us a unique performance to "It's Raining Men". A number of male pros descended from the ceiling.

Next up was Martina Navratilova, who I really like by the way, showing why she was the first to be eliminated. We also had the always smiling Jack Wagner and Anna Jack's not too bad actually, her would have gone further if the talent wasn't so high this season.

Gavin DeGraw is back with the boat! The one that got him eliminated! He's dancing with four pros this time but he still seems to be sinking.

And here's Gladys, lovely to watch, she and Tristan really seem to enjoy it.

Apparently, Jaleel White has always wanted to do the Paso Doble to the theme from Shaft. Who knew? It's pretty good actually. The multi-dancer routines have been excellent tonight.

Melissa is back re-enjoying her trio dance with the Chmerkovskiy brothers, except this time they grabbed her buttocks.

Roshon really wanted to do a hip hop freestyle dance so he and Chelsie were given their chance. To be blunt I don't think he would have got a 30 from the judges, but it was pretty good just the same.

And finally, in terms of eliminated couples we have Maria and Derek with a Tango. Really quick excellent.

And do to the final performances.

William and Cheryl - Salsa - 30 - a perfect salsa as far as I can tell. "Nobody Does it better than William" said Bruno.

Katherine and Mark - Jive - 30 - high energy dance that you expect from Mark. Seemed to miss a couple of moves to me but I don't think anyone is going to be scored badly on the last night. The judges were effusive and generic in their comments.

Donald and Peta - Cha Cha Cha - 30 - shirtless and fun. The judges said stuff that was pretty meaningless really. Len thought he was the best football player on the show ever.

So the judges' scores are pretty meaningless as there is a point separating the couples - Katherine/Mark on 90 and the others on 89.

It's down to the viewers' votes!

But first Ms Gladys Knight sings...The Way We Were. While see sings (beautifully) there are really creepy giant screens behind the three couples showing their stories.

It's time! The third place couple is...

William Levy and Cheryl Burke

I had them winning, so what do I know?

So we have Katherine and Mark, Donald and Peta.

The champions of Season 14 of Dancing with the Stars are...

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd!

Obviously Katherine and Mark were second.

Live Scores from The Finals of Dancing with the Stars

And so we come to the last week of season 14 of Dancing with the Stars. As Tom says, the most talented season yet.

The first dance is a style the judges would like the couple to improve upon. They can chose the music and choreography.

William and Cheryl - Cha Cha Cha - 30 - very good dance, seems a little stilted at times to me. Len thought it was the best Cha Cha he'd seen on DWTS. Bruno and Carrie Ann were effusive too.

Katherine and Mark - Paso Doble - 30 - very expressive choreography, beautifully executed. Technical brilliance said Bruno. "A buffet of Spanish Tapas" or "Fabulous" was Len's input.

Donald and Peta - Argentine Tango - 29 - some great lifts here! Len thought it was a little too careful. Carrie Ann loved it before and she loved it tonight. Bruno thought it was very effective.

And so we move to the freestyle dances.

William and Cheryl - 29 - lots of Latin stuff, gyrations and passion. Audience loved it. Len thought it was too predictable -"a salsa with lifts". Sinful thought Bruno. Carrie Ann liked it.

Katherine and Mark - 30 - "The Welsh Wiggler Night Club". Lots of facial gyrations with a mix of jive, Lindy Hop and quickstep (?). Frenetic, perhaps too much. They seemed to miss a hold near the beginning. "A dance of a champion" said Carrie Ann.

Donald and Peta - 30 - Country! On a football field! I loved it! I don't know that it was technically good but it was fun! "Oh my god" said Carrie Ann. Len said it was fantastic. Bruno said it was inspired.

Well with the scores so close it really is down to the viewers. Katherine is a point ahead of William and Donald. There is one more dance tomorrow night - the couples got the music after tonight's show and need to work on the routine this evening.

DWTS Semi-finals Results - Live

Courtesy ABC/Adam Taylor
An exciting and closely scored semi-final sets us up for a long and boring results show with a really exciting ending.

Kicking the show off is the spotlight dance - William and Cheryl's samba!

The first couple to know their fate is Katherine and Mark. Tom confirmed she is OK after her back injury from last night and would be able to continue. Katherine and Mark are in the finals!

We then had a round-robin of what the professionals thought of each celebrity. Shame they're all so nice!

The Design-a-Dance had Tristan and Chelsie dancing a samba to a Beyonce song. They were very good of course but I've never really understood the Design-a-Dance.

Next we had Alanis singing her new tune and then Maria and Derek were up. Despite having the biggest score he night before, they were in jeopardy!

We then had a performance from the cast of the movie Rock of Ages. A pretty good, albeit generic routine.

We then had some very insincere promises that we'd find out another finalist within minutes, but we did see Carrie Underwood who seems very nice and a good singer too.

So, we have Donald/Peta and William/Cheryl. William is in the final so Donald is still in jeopardy, joining Maria.

The two couples stand on the stage as they listen to Tom and Brooke go through their long-winded spiel designed to waste time and make you want to pull your hair out.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough have been eliminated from Dancing with the Stars season 14. A very nice person with a very strange laugh Maria seems ever so nice and very, very fit.

As Tom said, whoever it is it sucks.

Semi-final Live Scores on DWTS

No dance duels, team dances, memorable years or dance marathons. Just two dances per couple, the lowest combined score goes home.

William and Cheryl - Tango - 28 - very competent dance. Len and Carrie Ann spotted a couple things that needed work. Bruno thought it was amazing.

Katherine and Mark - Quickstep - 29 - This was a joy to watch, whatever the scores. Carrie Ann thought it was the best DWTS dance ever, Len said Katherine could sing and dance, Bruno thought it was amazing.

Donald and Peta - Waltz - 28 - lovely dance, Donald seemed a little stiff to me. Carrie Ann felt there were some missteps. Len thought it was charming. Bruno thought it was fantastic.

Maria and Derek - Argentine Tango - 30 - this was very, very good. Len said it was fabulous. Carrie Ann kicked Len in her excitement. Bruno thought it was fabulous.

And here are the scores for the second set of performances.

William and Cheryl - Samba - 30 - the crowd loved it. I did too. So did the judges. Bruno was incoherent.

Katherine and Mark - Salsa - 27 - every season Mark has to come up with a dance with silly costumes and this was the dance. Belly dancer, wicker basket. It was a great dance, I was the only one who saw a couple of mistakes it seems. At the end Katherine hurt her back or something and was overcome with emotion. The judges loved it. Bruno thought it was wonderful.

Donald and Peta - Samba - 29 - some fancy footwork, a relatively high number of mistakes. The judges liked it. Bruno thought it was wonderful.

Maria and Derek - jive - 29 - started off with Derek applying a defribulator to Maria, the rest was OK though. Carrie Ann, Len and Bruno loved it.

Here's the summary of scores:

William/Cheryl - 58
Katherine/Derek - 56
Donald/Peta - 57
Maria/Derek - 59

It's so close, obviously it'll depend on the viewers!

Off The Show, On The Double - Week 8 Eliminations

Two couples are bidding farewell to the ballroom tonight. And because there are two there's more potential for an upset! Here are the scores from last night:

William/Cheryl - 30 & 27 = 57
Roshon/Chelsie - 29 & 27 = 56
Katherine/Mark - 26 & 29 = 55
Donald/Peta - 27 & 28 = 55
Maria/Derek - 28 & 25 = 53
Melissa/Maks - 24 & 27 = 51

On the face of it Maria and Melissa are favorites to go home. But Roshon has been in the bottom two 3 times! And www.dialidol.com think that Melissa and Maks are the only couple safe!

Let's see shall we?

ABC/ADAM TAYLOR
Donald, Peta and Karina were asked to do their Trio dance as the Spotlight Dance. It was actually an even better performance! Tighter, but more relaxed at the same time.

The first two couples are up. Donald/Peta and Katherine/Mark. Donald is safe! Katherine and Mark are in jeopardy. Oooh!

This is Dance Center! Kenny Mayne, Jerry Rice and Len Goodman are back. Katherine is obsessed with naughty bits, Roshon is 12 and William is perfect. You get the idea.

Roshon/Chelsie and William/Cheryl are up next. And one of the couples are going home right now! It must be Roshon. And it is. Awh. He's such a nice boy.

Dance Center 2 - an entertaining set of clips of Maria, a goat and a dolphin laughing, Melissa has a longhorn steer implanted in her back and Donald is always falling down.

The Macy's Stars of Dance performed a tribute to Dick Clark with some of the original dancers from the show! Except I couldn't tell which ones they were. Maybe I misheard. It was a very good performance though.

We were then treated to Dmitry Chaplin and someone called Anya performing a number from the Las Vegas show.

Melissa/Maks and Maria/Derek are up next. Maria is safe so it's down to Melissa and Katherine.

And the second couple eliminated is Melissa and Maks. The expected result (by me anyway), Melissa was one of my favorites in this season.

Double the fun, three times the dancers - DWTS Week 8 Live Scores

Each couple dances twice. Their second dance being with a third dancer of their choice. Then two go home tomorrow! It's going to be hectic!

To the scores:

Donald and Peta - Tango - 27 - very professional as always from Donald. "Ding Dong Donald" said Len. Apparently that was good. Bruno liked it too. Carrie Ann said he was focused, but needed more drama.

Maria and Derek - Viennese Waltz - 28 - very polished and technically excellent but it was, and I know it sounds silly, boring. Bruno said it was amazing. Len thought they could have done more dancing in hold (I agree). Len gave an 8, the others 10.

Melissa and Maks - Foxtrot - 24 - very nice. They may not be as good as the other couples but I really enjoy their performances! Lots of emotion after the dance - even though he's a bad boy she really does like Maks.

Katherine and Mark - Viennese Waltz - 26 - lovely dance, very strange spin at the end - he seemed to throw her a bit hard. Len liked it apart from the spin - just like me! Bruno loves her technique. Carrie Ann got booed (not sure why, the audience doesn't seem to like anything negative!)

Roshon and Chelsie - Foxtrot - 29 - a jaunty little foxtrot. Bruno was very pleased "a young Mickey Rooney". "Two little dancing munchkins" said Len. Carrie Ann liked it too. The score was a little high I felt but only by one or two points.

William and Cheryl - Foxtrot - 30 - an even better foxtrot! And to "Stray Cat Strut"! (One of my faves!) The judges liked it too!

And now to the Trio round!

Donald, Peta and Karina Smirnoff - Jive - 28 - the audience loved it. The judges loved it. I thought it was a little awkward, but good nevertheless.

Maria, Derek and Henry V - Samba - 25 - Bollywood-style! Derek does like to experiment! Enjoyable, a little awkward again. (They had an abs contest and Maria seemed to win btw). Bruno was impressed by the number. Len didn't think it was a samba - he gave it a seven.

Melissa, Maks and Val - Samba - 27 - four Chmerkovskiy buttocks! A little hesitant to start but it was very enjoyable. The judges said it was her best performance.

Katherine, Mark and Tristan - Cha Cha Cha - 29 - Katherine got her pants leg stuck around her ankle, she dealt with it well. A good performance.

Roshon, Chelsie and Sasha Farbar. Paso Doble - 27 - great performance, although Sasha didn't seem to be in it much. The judges felt he made a couple of mistakes but Len enjoyed the buttocks. Seriously.

William, Cheryl and Tony Dovolani - Paso Doble - 27 - ooh, William in a mask. He was the Zorro to Tony's bad guy. The audience loved it. The judges liked it too.

So here are the overall scores:

  1. William/Cheryl - 30 & 27 = 57
  2. Roshon/Chelsie - 29 & 27 = 56
  3. Katherine/Mark - 26 & 29 = 55
  4. Donald/Peta - 27 & 28 = 55
  5. Maria/Derek - 28 & 25 = 53
  6. Melissa/Maks - 24 & 27 = 51

Who Was Canned In Classical Week?

Answer at the bottom of the post!

We kicked off the Results Show with the promise of two couples "dancing for redemption" and the Spotlight Dance, which was, of course, Maria and Derek's Perfect Paso (The dance had an alternate ending with Derek Killing Maria. Nice touch.)

The first three couples up are Katherine/Mark, Donald/Peta and William and Cheryl. And all three were safe of course.

Gavin DeGraw popped back and sang a very pleasant tune, with Karina Smirnoff and Louis van Amstel accompanying on the dance floor.

Ballroom Battle were up next where six professionals picked an amateur couple each and tutored them. The was a knockout round and the three pros left are Tony Dovolani, Cheryl Burke and Louis van Amstel. Their couples performed a "jive" relay. Louis' team were third and Cheryl's team win. It was all a bit disorganized and Tom was beeped for swearing!

The final four couples were ready to find out who was in the Dance Duel. Maria and Derek safe (duh). Roshon and Chelsie in the bottom 2. Melissa and Maks safe. So Jaleel and Kym are in the bottom 2 too.

They will Rumba.

I hate this split screen! Jaleel seemed the better to me, but what do
I know?

The judges waffled a bit. Then Carrie Ann chose Roshon. Len chose Roshon. Bruno chose Roshon and Chelsie.

So Jaleel White and Kym Johnson were eliminated in week 7 of season 14 of Dancing with the Stars. Jaleel claimed he really enjoyed it but it didn't always seem that way. He was very gracious in defeat.

Scores from Classical Night on Dancing with the Stars

Classical night! The band don't get the night off but they are augmented by an orchestra. I didn't like Classical Night last season. It's not as bad as Rock Night but I don't think the genre really fits.  We'll see what tonight brings!

The couples will dance once, and then perform a team dance.

To the scores:

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas - Rumba - 27 - Well. That was the strangest Rumba ever! Not saying it was bad but it was just so strange. It was like Greek Gods slow wrestling. Well, Len thought it was great. Bruno would rather have it raunchier, but technically it was superb. Carrie Ann felt it was a little false.

Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Argentine Tango - 21 - Maks has a boo-boo on his foot. Melissa had to practice with Val during the week. I think Melissa and Maks are good. Sometimes I feel I'm the only one who thinks that. Bruno thought it wasn't too good. Carrie Ann thought it was like Cirque de Soleil. Len thought some of it was good, lacked some quality. Melissa didn't seem to believe what they were saying.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke - Argentine Tango - 27 - lovely, but like Katherine and Mark it had the feeling of cheap ballet. I really don't like Classical night. The judges (rightly) liked it.

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower - Argentine Tango - 25 - Roshon was trying to be more manly and he accomplished it in the main. Good performance. I got a five second blackout on my TV so I don't know if there was a wardrobe malfunction.  After some sterling detective work I think there was a camera shot from above that looked right down Chelsie's dress.

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd - Viennese Waltz - 27 - Now that's better! A lovely waltz. It just the tango that doesn't go with the music! (For me anyway!) Bruno said thank you. Carrie Ann didn't see a lift. Len thought it was terrific.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough - Paso Doble - 30 - Okay, so Maria has plastic teeth in and is pretending to be a vampire... She gave him a big bite at the end! Bit silly really, but a great performance. That didn't suck says Carrie Ann. Sharp as a razor said Len. Bruno wants to be turned.

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson - Viennese Waltz - 24 - Eh. Strange waltz if you ask me. Bit boring. Len thought it had a nice feel to it but no footwork. Bruno said lots of stuff. Carrie Ann said his hands were "fringy".

On to the team dances.

Team Tango are Katherine/Mark, Maria/Derek, Roshon/Chelsie, Jaleel/Kym. That Tango went with the music. I'm just a philistine I guess. Very good performance. Len said Roshon and Maria were good, Katherine and Jaleel not so much. Team Tango scored 27.

Team Paso - William/Cheryl, Donald/Peta, Melissa/Maks. Ride of the Valkyries! I have to say they looked a little tired. But I enjoyed it more than the Tango I think. The music was brilliant! The shirtless men gave Bruno a thrill by sitting on the judges table. The audience loved it. Bruno loved it. Not sure about the other two.  Team Paso scored 26. Audience wasn't happy.

Well, an entertaining evening I must admit.  Some controversy as always!  Here are the final scores for each couple:

Maria/Derek - 30 & 27 = 57
Katherine/Mark - 27 & 27 = 54
Donald/Peta - 27 & 26 = 53
William/Cheryl - 27 & 26 = 53
Roshon/Chelsie - 25 & 27 = 52
Jaleel/Kym - 24 & 27 = 51
Melissa/Maks - 21 & 26 = 47

Seven Reasons I Don't Like The Dancing With The Stars Dance Duel

Courtesy ABC

The Dance Duel has been run twice with, one could argue, the "correct" couple being eliminated both times.  Jaleel beat out Gavin last week and Roshon won over Gladys this week.

The reasons for the Dance Duel are many - the most important being to ensure good dancers are kept safe from the vagaries of the viewers.

So we have taken a system of professional judges scoring dances that have been developed for weeks, millions of viewers voting via phone/text/web, pundits and ordinary viewers putting forth their views on who will go, and added 30 seconds of frenetic dancing that was put together that morning.

I don't like it and here are some reasons why:
  1. I keep calling it a "dance off" by mistake
  2. The split screen makes me feel slightly nauseous
  3. It seems very rushed at the end of the show, particularly as the dance is so short and Tom keeps nagging people to hurry along
  4. If someone trips then thats it, no matter how much better they may be than the other couple
  5. It's hard to watch the judges make up nice things to say
  6. The announcement of the couple going home is an anticlimax, with either Len "deciding" (if he agrees with Carrie-Ann) or Bruno choosing who is staying and Tom having to clarify who is going home
  7. It's an anagram of "can delude"
Having said all that, anything that makes the Results Show more interesting is worth considering!

What do you think?  Are you a Dance Duel fan?

Who Was Mown Down By Motown?

Answer at the end of the page.

Here are my real-time notes about the results show in Motown Week.

Tonight we have Boyz 2 Men singing a new tune and other excellent acts. We'll have some behind the scenes footage (always good) and we also have the starting-to-irritate-me Dance Duel.

First off we had a Motown medley by the Harold Wheeler Band, with the Toupe and sundry professionals, choreographed by Louis van Amstel. Excellent as always.

Then we has the first four couples to learn their fate - William/Cheryl, Maria/Derek, Jaleel/Kym and Melissa/Maks.

First safe are Jaleel and Kym. The first in jeopardy are Maria/Derek. William/Cheryl are safe. Melissa and Maks are in jeopardy of course. No surprises there.

Next is the AT&T spotlight dance. A lovely girl from Sierra Leone who is also a leading ballet dancer danced to Natasha singing Wild Horses.

We then had a segment where the stars complained how tired they are.

Then we had the Macy's Stars of Dance. I'm not sure who they were but they were really good. Lots of clouds and flowing costumes and wonderful imagery.

We then had Boyz II Men. Dmitry and Anna accompanied them on the dance floor (nice to see them.)

The four couples left were up. Katherine/Mark safe. Gladys/Tristan jeopardy. Donald/Peta safe. Roshon/Chelsie jeopardy.

OK, who's in the bottom two? Melissa and Maks aren't! Gladys and Tristan are in the bottom two and are in the dance duel. Maria/Derek safe, so Roshon and Chelsie are in the bottom two too.

The two couples dance a jive against each other, that must favor Roshon!

There was more costume changing than dancing!

An unsatisfactory end for one couple.

And that couple, by a judges' vote of 2-1, is Gladys and Tristan.

The right couple left, but no one wanted to see them go.

Motown Night on DWTS Live!

We kicked off with three legends of Motown - Smokey Robinson, Martha Reeves and The Temptations. Unfortunately my family insisted on singing along which spoiled it quite a lot really. But, from what I could hear, they were very good (the Motown stars.)

On to the scores:

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus -21 - Gladys danced to The Temptations singing My Girl. Forgot a few steps, but this was a very elegant dance. Len thought she was the most charismatic performer. Bruno wanted more steam.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough - Foxtrot - 26 - Martha Reeves sang Jimmy Mac. Wow this was excellent. Maria looked like Grace Kelly. Beautifully danced, wonderful choreography. One trip is all. Carrie Ann was picky. Len loved it.

Rishon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower -  Rumba - 23 - Smokey Robinson sang for Roshon. Very sensuous dance for a young man! Carrie Ann thought his movements were over-exaggerated and a foot came off the floor (or something). Len thought it was too jerky. Bruno thought it was a great performance. I thought he was pretty good.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas - Samba - 29 - The Temptations - very good performance as always. Len called her "The Midwife" because she delivers. *sigh*

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd - Foxtrot - 27 - Donald is a very focused person. He wants to win! Excellent performance. The judges seemed to like it too.

Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Viennese Waltz - 24 - a pretty dance, competent but perhaps uninspired. The judges were complimentary.

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson - Cha Cha Cha - 29 - he did the splits! Much better than last week. Len thought he was back. Bruno said it was the biggest sizzler of the season.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke - Rumba - 27 - OK he's really good as well as being sexy. Not sure about the choreography, Cheryl seemed to do a lot of walking about. Very good though. "Utter filth and I enjoyed every moment of it" - Bruno. Carrie Ann wanted more dancing. Len felt it was a little on the raunchy side.

Intermission with Smokey Robinson singing Tears of a Clown - one of my favorites - with Anna and Val dancing.

The dance marathon is a Cha Cha. The first couple out gets 3 points, the second 4, and so on until the last couple dancing gets 10. Here's the order they were eliminated with their total score on the night.

Gladys/Tristan - 3 & 21 = 24
Maria/Derek - 4 & 26 = 30
Roshon/Chelsie - 5 & 23 = 28
Melissa/Maks - 6 & 24 = 30
Donald/Peta - 7 & 27 = 34
Jaleel/Kym - 8 & 29 = 37
William/Cheryl - 9 & 27 = 36
Katherine/Mark - 10 & 29 = 39

It seems to me that we will see Gladys and Roshon in the dance duel tomorrow. What do you think?

Motown Heaven on Dancing with the Stars

Tonight is Motown Night on Dancing with the Stars.  There'll be real life Motown stars singing real, live Motown hits!

Smokey Robinson, The Temptations and Martha Reeves will sing throughout the evening. The three legends kick off the show with a medley accompanied by the Troupe. And then each artist will perform before each of the couples begin their dance.  Also, Human Nature will perform some Motown hits throughout the evening.

At the end of the show will be a Dance Marathon, where the couples will be dancing to Motown hits.  I really like the dance marathon so I'm looking forward to it!  (If you don't like Motown you're out of luck!)

On the results show we'll have Boyz II Men and various other distractions.  Then it's the dance duel where the bottom two couples jive at each other.

I didn't like the dance duel - mainly because of the split screen, I got confused!

Who Is Leaving In Latin Week?

Answer at the bottom of the page...

It's going to be a busy results show! We have Train, Selena Gomez and The Scene and Macy's Stars of Dance featuring Sheila E.

Plus some celebrities will be told they are safe and two couples will be told they aren't. Those two couples will have a dance off and the judges will choose the losers.

The spotlight dance was Maria and Derek with their salsa. Derek still took his shirt off, but instead of kissing each other Derek kissed Carrie Ann and Maria Kissed Bruno.

The first three couples up are Gladys/Tristan, Maria/Derek and Melissa/Maks.

Maria safe. Melissa safe. Gladys safe. (I think Melissa may have dropped an f-bomb.)

Train then sang a very pleasant song with Cheryl and Louis dancing.

Then we had Macy's Stars of Dance and then Selena Gomez. (Justin was on NBC at the same time!)

Next up are Donald/Peta, Katherine/Mark and William/Cheryl.

William safe. Katherine safe. Donald safe.

Sorta makes sense, it would be unfair to tell one couple sooner than the other.

Finally we had Jaleel/Kim, Roshon/Gavin, Gavin/Karina.

Roshon is safe. Which means Jaleel and Gavin will face off in the dance duel!

Each couple dance the Cha Cha simultaneously and the judges decide who is staying based on their performances tonight.

Both couples did really well! It was hard to watch on the split screen but they had obviously practiced!

The judges were very nice in their comments to both couples but in the end all three chose Jaleel as the winner and so Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff were eliminated.

Gavin was funny and had fun. Too bad he couldn't dance.

The Scores On Latin Night in DWTS

It's Latin week. As well as Carlos Santana we have some celebrities and their professional partners dancing Latin!

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson - 24 - Samba - very good, he seemed as though he was enjoying himself! "Your bum was going like you were chewing a toffee" - not Bruno, Len!

Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Salsa - 21 - Melissa really seemed uncomfortable shaking her bits but she definitely took to the drama of the salsa! Bruno wanted her to be sharper.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough - Salsa - 27 - great performance, really sexy. Derek seems to be really pushing her technically. Bruno licked his lips.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas - Argentine Tango - 29 - She really could dance professionally. The judges loved it.

Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff - Samba - 19 - competent dance, but compared to the others it's hard to stand out. He wasn't too good but he had fun.

We then had an intermission with Carlos Santana and the band playing Maria Maria and Louis Van Amstel and Anna Trebunskaya dancing. Very nice to see them.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke - Argentine Tango - 29 - he should hurt his ankle every week! Excellent. He is much better at this sort of dance than the jive. The judges liked it too.

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus - Samba - 22 - Gladys needs a waltz. She doesn't really suit the more flamboyant dances. She had fun though!

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower - - Samba - 26 - good technically but a little uninspiring to me

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd - Argentine Tango - 27 - oh my. That was very good indeed. Who was the pro?? Len thought the lifts were spectacular but he didn't like the rest.

Tomorrow night the bottom two couples will dance off to the Cha Cha and the judges will decide who will go home.

What is in Week 5 of DWTS? Latin!

It's Latin week on Dancing with the Stars and to prove it Carlos Santana will perform some of his classic hits throughout the Monday show. And the remaining nine couples will dance either the Salsa, Argentine Tango or the Samba.

On Tuesday night, we have Train and Selena Gomez and her band, The Scene, performing (not together though.) The "Macy's Stars of Dance" performance is a celebration of Latin dances featuring acclaimed percussionist Sheila E.

The big thing this week is that the bottom two couples will face off in a Dance Duel. The two couples will perform the same dance style, this week the Cha-Cha, to the same song at the same time. The dance floor will be split in half as the couples dance side by side and the judges will decide who stays and who goes home. Now I don't like this as it marginalizes the viewer votes, but I have to say anything that makes the Results Show more interesting is OK with me! We'll have to see!

Guy Gets Flooded With Dancing With The Stars Voting Calls

Egg Harbor -

Next Monday, fans nationwide will be calling in once again to vote for Donald Driver as he competes in week five of ABC's Dancing with the Stars.

But for one Egg Harbor man, it will be week five of his own home phone ringing off the hook.

For four Mondays in a row now, Jeff Paschke's rural Door County home has been flooded with phone calls between 7 and 10 p.m.

"I picked up the phone and you know, 'Voting for Donald Driver!" Paschke said, imitating the caller. "And that's when I say, 'This is not Dancing with the Stars!"

The number to vote for Donald Driver is 1 (800) 868-3403.

The Paschke residence is (920) 868-3403.

The last seven digits are the same.

So when people nearby forget to dial 1-800, his phone rings.

Paschke says every season he gets a few calls, but this year, "I was watching it the first night knowing that Donald was on there, and he came out, as the third one coming out, his number was 3-4-0-3," he said. "And I'm like, 'Ohh boy, here we go. I wonder how many calls I'm going to get."

He got a whopping 76 calls for week three. He got 67 last week, all within the three-hour voting period. He knows because he has kept track of each call and its location in a notebook.

"I do have call waiting so when I am with one, all of a sudden another one comes beeping in... I hang up on one and I've got another call on the line," Paschke said.

He has gotten calls from as far away as De Pere, which means people are actually dialing the 920 area code instead of 1-800.

But Paschke is finding the humor behind it all because it's just temporary.

Though, he does want to remind viewers: "Make sure you dial the 1-800, you know?"

It might be a good indicator of how well Donald is doing!

Who Got Rolled in Rock Week?

The answer further down the page...

KISS kicked off after a montage of the previous night's dances and an ambulance or two (Melissa hurt her head and had to get checked out).

In fact the first two couples were Melissa/Maks and Gavin/Karina. however Melissa was not there - the doctors told her to rest after hitting her head on Maks' shin (I could think of more interesting places on Maks).

Anyway they were both safe! Tom had hinted on Twitter that we were in for a surprise result so they are going to keep the suspense going.

Donald and Peta performed their Purple Haze Paso Doble as the spotlight dance. Those spins are impressive!

Next three couples up are Maria/Derek, Jaleel/Kym and Gladys/Tristan. Maria is coming back. As is Jaleel. As is Gladys!

Karina danced ballet with a really good dancer to an Argentinean band. Thoroughly enjoyable.

The top two scoring couples are next up - Roshon/Chelsie and Donald/Peta. Donald is safe. According to Tom that means that Roshon and Chelsie are in the bottom two, despite having the second highest judges' score!

We then had a routine from the DWTS show that opens in Las Vegas this weekend. Looks good!

The final three couples are up to find out who will join Roshon and Chelsie in the bottom two. Katherine is safe.

Pause for commercial break...

William and Cheryl are safe.

The final two couples - Sherri/Val and Roshon/Chelsie - descend the stairs of shame.

Sherri Shepherd has been eliminated from season 14 of Dancing with the Stars. She most definitely enjoyed it and got her money's worth.

Rock Week Scores on Dancing with the Stars

Rock Week kicked off with some old people wearing way too much make-up...and it wasn't the celebrities or the judges! Yes KISS started off the show!

And here are the scores:

Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy - Tango - 21 - the judges gave it straight sevens saying it was OK but not exciting. The Tango needs drama which Sherri didn't really deliver for once.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas - Paso - 24 - lots of passion but the technical part wasn't as good as previous weeks.

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson - Tango - 22 - great dance, seemed to be a bit rigid at times. The judges liked it, wanted more attack.

Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Paso - 22 - lots of drama, great performance. Maks slipped a bit. Pretty good really. The audience thought the score was too low.

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd - Paso - 27 - oh my. Shirtless. And very very hot! "Hot damn" said Carrie Ann. Bruno just panted a lot. "I never thought I'd get excited by a man with his shirt off" - Len

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus - Tango - 20 - Bohemian Rhapsody didn't allow Gladys to bring out her inner Tina Turner and was very hard to dance to. A bad song for her. The audience didn't like the score but I thought it was a little high.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke - Jive - 22 - frenetic, a few mistakes, he seemed to lack confidence. Len and the judges warned him to focus.

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower - Viennese Waltz - 26 - lovely dance. The music wasn't very "Rock Week" but a great performance.

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough - Tango - 26 - very dramatic, easy song for the Tango. Len thought she had great posture.

Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff - Tango - 23 - eh. Posture bad, rest ok.

I don't think that Rock Music lends itself to the Tango or the Paso Doble which might be why scores are low this week.

Tomorrow the bottom two couples will have a dance-off with the judges deciding who goes home.  I don't like it but we'll see how it goes!

The second (memorable) elimination in season 14

The next couple to be eliminated is...

...further down the page.

The "Most Memorable Year Of My Life" week had a most forgettable Results Show so lets get straight to it.

The couples were whittled down to three by the end:

Gladys/Tristan
Jack/Anna
Gavin/Karina

Gladys was the first to be declared safe and the final two couples had to descend the stairway of shame (too slowly apparently).

Jack Wagner and Anna Trebunskaya were eliminated. Jack seems like a really nice guy but just too uncomfortable on the dance floor. Everyone is great this season and it's a shame to see anyone go!

Memorable Year Of My Life Week (or...Dribbling with the Stars)

As always this week has the highest potential for cheesy, sentimental dances. So here are the scores:

Jack Wagner and Anna Trebunskaya - 24
Maria Menounos and Derek Hough - 27
Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus - 24
Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower - 25
Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff - 24
Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas - 29
Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy - 24
Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 24
Jaleel White and Kym Johnson - 25
William Levy and Cheryl Burke - 28
Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd - 26

Some very good performances tonight and no one was bad. Whoever goes home doesn't deserve to!

The crying was pretty irritating though - I'm not saying it was insincere but the producers just seemed to feature it anyway they could.

Personal Stories Week on DWTS

This week sees "The Most Memorable Year of My Life".  I do wish they did this later in the season.  It's very hard to emote when dancing and I think the celebrities need to be more comfortable in the ballroom first in my opinion.  There have been some very poor dances in the past (good ones too I admit) that might be OK technically but are so cringeworthy when it comes to the interpretative part.

The results show has Seal (he's good), Rascal Flatts (they're good) and Macy's Stars of Dance (variable, but looks OK this week,)

And then a couple gos home!

(Here's an extract from the press release).

"Episode 1403 & 1403 A" - This week's episode of "Dancing with the Stars,"  themed "The Most Memorable Year of My Life," challenges  the remaining eleven couples to perform a meaningful dance using any style dance of their choice, MONDAY, APRIL 2 (8:00-10:01 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

On Tuesday, acclaimed singer and songwriter Seal returns to the ballroom performing "Lean On Me" from his latest album "Soul 2." His soulful performance will be accompanied by four members of the Troupe. Also hitting the stage is best-selling country vocal group, Rascal Flatts, with a network TV debut performance of "Changed," the title of their new album due out April 3rd. Their performance is accompanied by pro dancer Tony Dovolani and Troupe member Sharna Burgess on TUESDAY, APRIL 3 (9:00-10:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

Also during Tuesday's show we have the season's first "Macy's Stars of Dance," with an all- star dance number featuring some of Hollywood's most prominent and talented male dancers from film and TV, including Kenny Wormald ("Footloose"), Twitch ("Step Up 3D" and "Step Up 4"), Travis Wall and many others. The exciting performance will be accompanied by one of the worlds most sought after horn trios, Grooveline Horns, who will be performing their composition "Copchase." This spectacular performance is choreographed by Misha Gabriel and Nick Bass who've shared the stage and screen with artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, Britney Spears, Beyonce and many more. Tuesday's show also welcomes the season's first "AT&T Spotlight Performance" which will feature Julia Ivleva's inspirational story. Julia is a world-class professional ballroom dancer who has recently been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. Her good friends Jonathan Roberts and Anna Trebunskaya will be dancing a powerfully emotional number in a special tribute to Julia and the fight against cancer.

Getting to Know Katherine Jenkins

abc katherine jenkins dancing stars thg 120329 main Dancing With the Stars Season 14: Getting to Know Katherine Jenkins

Adam Taylor/ABC

Katherine Jenkins makes the complicated moves look easy.

Jenkins, one of the breakout favorites on season 14 of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” has wowed judges and the audience with her dancing skills and personal charm.

Her life, though, wasn’t always as perfect as it might appear today.

A very open, candid interview with Katherine Jenkins on what she has faced growing up.

Tuesday, March 27, 2012

The first eliminated couple is...

...further down the page (well it will be).

After a very promising first two weeks we are faced with our first elimination. There aren't any stinkers this season so whoever goes will be a shame, and everyone who stays deserve it.

But first we have to endure the Results Show.

- we kicked off with a very pleasant routine by the professional dancers and the re-formed DWTS troupe
- some behind the scenes and hidden mike stuff from Melissa, Gladys, Martina and their partners. Apparently Melissa has done it in Disneyland!
- Melissa/Maks safe. As are Gladys/Tristan. But Martina/Tony still in jeopardy.
- Sugarland and a gentleman called Matt who I don't know performed a really great song I've never heard before.
- Brooke's dress seems to be made of recycled Victoria's Secret bags!
- Roshon, Jaleel and William are up.
- Jaleel/Kym safe. Roshon/Chelsie in jeopardy. William/Cheryl safe.
- the Troupe did a routine - they all seem very nice
- Maria/Derek, Katherine/Mark, Sherri/Val all went onto the stage, and then all trooped off when they were told they were all safe.
- Sugarland sang another song. They are very good.
- Next are Donald, Jack and Gavin.
- Donald safe. Gavin in jeopardy. Jack safe
- So the final three are Gavin/Anna, Roshon/Chelsie, Martina/Tony
- Roshon safe

Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovolani have been eliminated from season 14 of Dancing with the Stars.

By no means a stinker, Martina was probably the worst but could easily have lasted until mid-season. Forgetting the steps can do that for you. Kudos to her for going all in!

Week 2 Scores Live

It half worked last week so I'll try live blogging the scores again (spoiler alert!).

The scores from last week (shown first) will be added to this week's and the first couple will be eliminated tomorrow!

Roshon Fegan and Chelsie Hightower - 23 & 26 = 49 - a very professional, energetic quickstep! Messed up a bit in the middle but Len liked it. Bruno thought it was delicious, Carrie Ann thought it was sophisticated.

Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy - 23 & 23 = 46 - energetic jive. She missed a big bit in the middle and sang along too much. Magnificent equipment said Bruno. Confident said Carrie Ann (I agree). Len felt good.

Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy - 20 & 20 = 40 - a very good quickstep, a little slip. I seem to be the only one who thinks she's really good. Her posture went as she got tired said Len. Carrie Ann was encouraging (a bad sign), Bruno let her down easy. Boos in the Ballroom said Brooke.

Jack Wagner and Anna Trebunskaya 23 & 21 = 44 - competent jive, but he over-concentrated. Carrie Ann said he over-danced. Len said it was "acceptable quality".

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus - 23 & 19 = 42 - it was good but I felt she was just going through the motions. Bruno thought she had to be careful with her frame, Len congratulated her on getting through the dance, but he apologized for not appreciating the performance (he gave her 5).

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas - 26 & 26 = 52 - wow she can dance. Other than singing along she was perfect. The judges liked it too.

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson - 26 & 22 = 48 - not as good as last week, he has a bit flat-footed. Len said it wasn't terrible. Bruno liked the concept. Carrie Ann said he was flat-footed. We have a psychic connection this week!

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough - 21 & 25 = 46 - I thought they were blindfolded but it was masks. Good dance, bit boring. Bruno liked her frame, Carrie Ann did too, Len thought they has speed and control and wanted more body contact.

Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovolani - 20 & 17 = 37 - oh dear. I think it was a jive. She forgot her steps and never really recovered. Points for trying and the pants. Too neat and precise says Len. "It happens to everyone" said Bruno.

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd - 21 & 24 = 45 - bad music choice - too slow for a quick step. Great performance. That performance was up there says Len. He also said he under-marked the previous week. Bruno thought it was refined and elegant.

Gavin DeGraw and Karina Smirnoff - 20 & 21 = 41 - better than last week, still a bit stiff. Bruno liked the leather. Carrie Ann thought his posture was funky. Len liked the feel and attitude.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke - 24 & 25 = 49 - good form, dancing a little dull, he looked very good. "even fully clothed you have the ability to dazzle" - Bruno.

Overall it was pretty good for a week 2 which normally sees much lower scores versus week 1. The first couple goes home tomorrow!

Donald Driver set for quickstep on 'Dancing with Stars'

Donald DriverABC/Rick Rowell Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd need a good score to avoid "Dancing with the Stars" exit.

I think Donald has some potential.

Sugarland to Appear on First Results Show

This week in season 14 the couples dance again - either a Jive or a Quickstep (my favorite) on Monday night.

Then, on Tuesday after the now obligatory recap episode, we will have the first results show, and therefore elimination, of the season.

As well as lots of filler Sugarland will be performing as will Matt Nathanson. Then the forest couple will be ejected from the glitter and sequin factory.

Derek Hough Says No Obvious Favorite This Season

In a nice little interview with TV Guide (link below) Derek Hough says that this season everyone is a contender.  I do agree that it seems more wide open that normal both in terms of who might win and who might get eliminated first.  There aren’t any real stinkers!
You can read the interview at the link below.  (He also talks about his goatee!)

The Scores in Week 1 of DWTS (live, sorta)

Spoiler alert! I'm sorta live blogging this depending on how many times I get interrupted by the dog or my son.

Just the scores and the odd comment:

Maria Menounos and Derek Hough - 21 - pretty solid for a week 1 dance

Jack Wagner and Anna Trebunskaya - 23 - Jack looked confident, the dance was lovely

Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd - 21- crowd pleasing dance, lots of energy, lots of mistakes, he could go far!

Gavin McGraw and Karina Smirnoff - 20 - wasn't bad, looked a little heavy-footed at times

Fegan and Chelsie Hightower - 23 - Roshon is a dancer. Period.

Sherri Shepherd and Val Chmerkovskiy - 23 - she really enjoyed it! I think her score was a little high though

Melissa Gilbert and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 20 - very good routine, she was very confident. I think Maks slipped! The score was a little low, I think.

William Levy and Cheryl Burke - 24 - he carries himself well, a little lost at times but he looked great! He WILL go far!

Martina Navratilova and Tony Dovolani - 20 - good try but she was stiff and a bit too tentative. Her score was a little high I thought.

Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas - 26 - really quite lovely. If people get to know her she could go all the way!

Gladys Knight and Tristan MacManus - 23 - Tristan did the same thing as last season and played it safe, and it worked. A great performance (factoring in age etc.).

Jaleel White and Kym Johnson - 26 - oh, very nice. He's a natural.

The performances were all very good tonight. No stinkers and at least 6 could be competing for that Mirror Ball.

Vegas Odds for DWTS 14

From vegasoddson.com here are the latest odds on the celebrities in season 14:
  • William Levy    4/1
  • Jaleel White    9/2
  • Donald Driver    5/1
  • Maria Menounos    5/1
  • Roshon Fegan    9/1
  • Gladys Knight    10/1
  • Katherine Jenkins    10/1
  • Sherri Shepherd    12/1
  • Melissa Gilbert    12/1
  • Jack Wagner    15/1
  • Gavin DeGraw    20/1
  • Martina Navratilova    20/1
As always with this sort of thing you know at least 2 if not more of those odds are way out.  I tend to agree with the favorites but think Roshon has a much better chance than Gladys and that you should never count out Martina.

Maks thinks his chances of winning season 14 are small

Media_httpmsnbcmediam_accxz

Whilst they want to win, Melissa doesn't actually want to beat specific people, she's just happy to compete. And Maks thinks their chances of winning are very slim because of the size of the mirror ball...

Gavin DeGraw 'To Join Dancing With The Stars'

Contactmusic is reporting that a friend of rockstar Gavin DeGraw heard that he was appearing in Dancing with the Stars. OneRepublic singer Ryan Tedder told The Hollywood Reporter that "Gavin DeGraw is doing Dancing With The Stars, I heard. He's amazing. He's one of my favourite male singers alive".

Gavin's main claim to popular fame is that his song "I Don't Want To Be" is the theme song for One Tree Hill.
