The First Two Finale Scores

From BuddyTV
The Monday Finale episode is always a bit of a let down I feel.
There are only three couples who only dance twice, there are no "support" acts, the judges are terribly nice to everyone, the couples still have to dance  at least once the next night and the sky box is just so empty!

The Tuesday show will be mayhem so maybe the quiet Monday show is what we really need.

Each couple performed a dance-type they hadn't done before and they also peformed a freestyle.

Here are the judges' score for the first two performances on the first night of Finale Week:

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough - 27 & 27 = 54 - Derek's freestyle wasn't as radical as perviousy seasons but was still pretty good.  Despite being extra polite the judges were tough on their marking for everyone so the score is pretty good.

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke - 27 & 30 = 57 - Rob's first 30 comes at just the right time.  It seemed to me that Rob did get some breaks from the judges but he deserves to be up there.

JR Martinez - 24 & 30 = 54.  My theory is that so many people are voting for JR that the producers want to keet some interest in the show for his fans and get the judges to mark him harshly.  All conjecture of course!

Tomorrow night has the couples dancing their favorite from the whole season, one couples is then eliminated and then the final two couples so an "instant samba".

I still have my money on JR!

Season 13 Finale Details

ABC have released the details for next week's finale.

On Monday (8pm EST for an hour) the couples - Ricki/Derek, JR/Karina and Rob/Cheryl will dance twice.  The first dance will be something they haven't yet performed and the second will be the Freestyle.  The Freestyle is always fun and (most of the time) is very good.  Derek always seems to come up with something!  The viewers will only have these two dances upon which to base their scores.

On Tuesday the two hour show starts at 9pm EST.  All twelve contestants will perform in some way, Lady Antebellum will sing a couple of tunes and I'm sure there'll be lots of filler/behind the scenes stuff.  The couples will perform their favorite dance of the season and then one will be eliminated.  The final two couples will perform an "Instant Samba" and then, very close to 11pm we'll know who is going home with the Mirror Ball Trophy!

'Dancing's' Carrie Ann defends her judging

Media_httpmsnbcmediam_yabmr

It's hard being a judge. No, I don't agree with them all the time, but the show wouldn't be the same without them!

It's Semi-final Week on Dancing with the Stars

The semi-final is one of the worst weeks to be eliminated.  You don’t get the fun of actually being in the final but you’ve put in the hard work to almost get there.

This week each couple dances three times – an Argentine Tango, a Paso Doble or Samba (whichever they haven’t danced before) and the Cha Cha relay – all couples will dance to the same song and the couples will be ranked – first-place 10 points, second-place couple 8 points, third-place 6 points and fourth-place 4 points.

Then the results show will be overrun with Muppets (who coincidently have a movie coming out and it’s owned by Disney!)  They perform a couple of dances and probably help out with some hosting too.  Here’s their video of their signature title song with OK Go:

Cobra Starship featuring Sabi will also be performing their current single and it’s the Design-a-Dance.

Then a couple will be eliminated!

The (Not So) Instant Dancing Elimination (Spoiler)

Despite the title, this week's results show didn't seem to drag as much as usual.

We had the female members of the Troupe trouping, Andrea Bocelli singing (something seemed off with the performance - I have no idea what though), some dancers doing some routines to Michael Jackson songs that I'm sure would be much better to see live, Flo Rida sang some tunes (very enjoyable, could use some work on the lip syncing though) and the understated, but never copied DanceCenter with Kenny Mayne, Jerry Rice and Len Goodman.

DanceCenter is the sort of thing that you either love or hate, and I'm sure there'll be lots of hatred about the footage of a naked Hope (from her ESPN The Magazine shoot) and a naked Len.  They covered the naughty bits with a round shapes - Len's shapes were significantly bigger.

Oh yeah, and someone got voted off.

Cutting to the chase, the last two couples were Rob/Cheryl and Nancy/Tristan (NOT neccesarily the bottom two in terms of score).

And Nancy Grace was eliminated from Dancing with the Stars Season 13.  She did seem to be fun and to have fun, but I'm not really a fan.  Tristan's a great guy though and will be missed.

Semi-final next week!

Week 8 Scores - Instantly!

(Spoilers further down the page)

Week 8 has the couples performing a dance they haven't done before and everyone performing the Jive for the instant dance (they get the music 30-40 minutes before they have to dance to it).

The Instant Dance has produced some memorable performances in the past - both good and bad - and tonight wasn't any different!

Here are the scores:

Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke - 27 & 24 = 51
Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 27 & 25 = 52
Ricki Lake and Derek Hough - 28 & 24 = 52
Nancy Grace and Tritan MacManus - 24 & 20 = 44
JR Martinez and Karina SMirnoff - 30 & 30 = 60
  • Rob danced very nicely although I can't help but feel he gets some slack from the judges
  • Hope and Maks danced together very well this week.  Len effused over their Jive.
  • Ricki and Derek were solid as usual
  • Nancy did a nice first dance, forgot the steps in the second.
  • JR and Karina seem to be much better than everyone else right now.
Nancy looks as though she is doomed - what do you think?

Instant Dancing on Dancing

This week is "Instant Dance" week.  It's one of my favorite innovations - the couples find out the music they have to dance the jive to only 30 minutes beforehand. They already have a routine of course but have to modify it in half an hour.

On the results show are Jordin Sparks, Tenor Andra Bocelli and Rapper Flo Rida.  Plus one eliminated celebrity!

Halloween Night Scores on Dancing with the Stars (Spoiler)

Halloween Night had everyone dressed up in costume.  Except Len, of course.

The couples each danced individually, and then there were team dances.  Team Tango had JR, David and Nancy plus their professional partners.  Team Paso had Ricki, Rob and Hope plus partners.

Here are the individual scores:

David and Cheryl - 24
JR and Karina - 25
Nancy and Tristan - 21
Rob and Cheryl - 25
Ricki and Derek - 27
Hope and Maks - 24

Team Tango's performance was praised by the judges for the team elements, but roundly criticised for the individual performances.  The overall score was 23 which was added to the couples individual score.

Team Paso (who did seem to dance better together) were loved by the judges.  They scored 26.

So the overall scores are:

Ricki and Derek - 27 & 26 = 53
Rob and Cheryl - 25 & 26 = 51
Hope and Maks - 24 & 26 = 50
JR and Karina - 25 & 23 = 48
David and Cheryl - 24 & 23 = 47
Nancy and Tristan - 21 & 23 = 44

Which basically mean that if you are on Team Tango you have a much greater chance of being eliminated.  I do like the team competition but I'm not sure they have the scoring right!

Bieber's in the Ballroom!

Justin Bieber and Boyz II Men are on the week 7 results show - I'm unsure about the connection with Halloween!

On All Hallows Eve (8.30ET/7.30c) the six remaining couples with be dancing individually, and then performing in a team dance, three couples in each team.

Team Tango's J.R & Karina, Nancy & Tristan and David & Kym, dancing to Rihanna's "Disturbia," battle Team Paso's Ricki & Derek, Hope & Maksim and Rob & Cheryl, dancing to Evanescence's "Bring Me to Life."  There will be a Halloween theme throughout.

Then on the reults show Justin will be singing "Fa La La" from his Christmas album (my, how they start young!) together with Boyz II Men.  He'll also sing "Never Say Never".

And then a couple will be banished from the ballroom!

Who Said Goodbye in Broadway Week?

Find out further down the page!

The results show was jam packed tonight!

JR and Karina had the spotlight dance - well deserved!  They also found out they were safe directly after.

The musical and performance guests were (mainly) Broadway related.  Kristin Chenoweth returned and Martina McBride sang a tune.  Lacey and Mark danced a halloween dance with some kids (very cute) and there was a medley peformed by Corbin Bleu and dancers, choreographed by Kenny Ortega.  The latter was very disappointing in my opinion, there was some very poor editing (yes, it wasn't live!) and the choreography seemed rather generic.

The next two couples up were Ricki/Derek and Nancy/Tristan.  And they were both safe!

Then there were David/Kym and Chaz/Lacey.  David safe, Chaz in jeopardy.

Then we had Rob/Cheryl and Hope/Maks.  After a long summary of the arguements from the previous night, we found out that Rob was safe and Hope was in jeopardy.

So we were left with Chaz and Lacey, and Hope and Maks.

And Chaz Bono has been eliminated from Dancing with the Stars.  Near the bottom of the scoring every week, Chaz obviously had the fan base, but it was really his time to leave.  He really put it all out there.  I guess they're not going to get Cher to perform now!

Who’s NOT Going Home in Broadway Week?

Well, Broadway Week seemed to be full of people getting on each others’ nerves.

The practice segments showed, among other things, Lacey getting forceful with Chaz, Cheryl and Rob shouting, Ricki wanting to give up and Maks telling Hope he’s not sure she can do it. All artfully edited by the producers I’m sure.

Plus we had Maks and Len going at each other, and Chaz being (rightfully) offended that he was referred to as a penguin.

So what does this mean in terms of who is on the block tonight?

The judges’ scores are added to the viewers’; here are the shares of the judges’ scores:

The differential is what the lowest scoring couple need to make up (Chaz and Lacey in this case.)

Definitely Safe

JR/Karina and Ricki/Derek are significantly ahead of the pack.

Probably Safe

The biggest differential to be overcome this season was when Chaz made up at least 2.5 percentage points over Kristin in week 3, so Nancy and Tristan are probably safe.

I’m going out on a limb and also saying that Hope and Maks are probably safe. According to DialIdol they had some busy tone on their phone number plus controversy tends to be beneficial. If you agree with Maks and think Len is an ass then you can vote for Maks. But if you think Len has it right you can’t actually vote against Maks – you can only vote for one of the six others. This means there is an overall positive effect, assuming there are lots of people who agree with Maks (which seems to be the case on Twitter.)

In Jeopardy

So that leaves Chaz/Lacey, Rob/Cheryl and David/Kym. Chaz had the lowest score but who knows what might happen?

Who do you think is going home?

Broad Scores in Broadway Week on DWTS (Spoilers)

Week 6 of Dancing with the Stars is Broadway week. That means there is a lot of lycra, strategically placed straps to hold things up and very dramatic dancing.

The couples were each given a Broadway tune to dance to, plus there was a group dance that wasn't scored by the judges.

Also, Kristin Chenoweth sang a couple of songs very, very well.  And Kenny Ortega made an appearance as he is choreographing on of the numbers in the results show.  (Isn't it interesting that Kenny Ortega appeared on Phineas and Ferb before making it to Dancing with the Stars?)

Here are the scores plus some random thoughts:
  • Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke - Cha Cha Cha - 22 - I thought Rob had great footwork in this number but from the neck up looked terrified.  Perhaps it was because his mother appeared at practice to encourage him?
  • Nancy Grace and Tristan MacManus - Foxtrot - 24 - Carrie and and Len seemed to be scoring different dances but it all evened up.  Tristan went with safe in terms of routine again, plus Nancy was a bit more relaxed and showed a bit more of her personality in the dance.
  • David Arquette and Kym Johnson - Quickstep - 23 - high enery, somewhat generic dance.
  • Ricki Lake and Derek Hough - Quickstep - 29 - great dancing, wonderful choreography.
  • Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer - Tango - 19 - Chaz isn't improving any more and it was a mistake to wear the Phantom of the Opera mask.  He seemed very upset when Bruno called him a penguin.
  • Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Rumba - 20 - Maks got upset at what he sees as the difference in judging standards for each couple.  Personally, I think Hope and JR are scored much harder than the others.  It made for a good bicker between Len and Maks, with the other judges warning Maks to be quiet!
  • JR Martinez and Karina Smirnoff - Quickstep - 29 - JR is the best dancer of the group, but are Ricki and Derek the best couple?
Apart from Ricki and JR everyone else could possible be in jeopardy based on the results so far this season.  Chaz is the probably the worst dancer, but I think Hope could be in trouble unless the public want to see more cat fights between Maks and the judges!

Broadway Week on DWTS

This week is Broadway week.  As Tom Bergeron pointed out it is such a shame Carson Kressley won't be performing!

Each couple dances to a show tune and then there is a group dance to a medley of "Big Spender" from "Sweet Charity" and "Money Money" from "Cabaret."

Kristin Chenoweth will perform a medley of "Maybe This Time" from "Cabaret" and "I Could Have Danced All Night" from "My Fair Lady" on the Performance Show plus the Broadway cast of "Sister Act," will perform a medley of "Raise Your Voice" and "Sunday Morning Fever."

Kristin returns on the Results Show to perform a song from her new album "Some Lessons Learned".  Martina McBride will also perform.

Then another celebrity will be banished!

Who was eliminated in 80s week?

Find out down the page!

It was a strange Daincing with the Stars results show this week.  The filler was more music than normal, but filler all the same.

The musical acts were Kelly Clarkson (who Tom was trying to get to come on the show) and The Band Perry.

To the results.

The first group were the ones who scored 24 from the judges - Ricki/Derek and Hope/Maks.

Ricki was safe, Hope still in jeopardy.  Y'know I'm not sure Hope is enjoying this.  The subtle body language and the way she takes criticism seem to indicate she's not in her comfort zone.  She's playing through the pain though!

The next group were the top three couples - JR/Karina, Rob/Cheryl and David/Kym.

JR safe.  David in jeopardy.  Rob safe.

The final group were Carson/Anna, Chaz/Lacey and Nancy/Tristan.

Chaz safe.  Nancy safe (she was both pleased and terrified).  Carson in jeopardy!

So we have the final group who may, or may not, be the bottom three.

Straight off, David and Kym are safe.

Hope looks pissed.  Carson looks resigned.

And Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya have been eliminated.

Carson was so much fun but a bit of a mess dancing wise.  Next week is Broadway Week which would have been perfrct for him, but it wasn't to be.

Week 5 - 80s Night Scores (Spoiler)

A now Chynna-less DWTS moves into 80s week.

We had the Bangles, some good tunes and some silly outfits.

Ahh, the 80s.

I was a bit disappointed actually, it could have been so much more over the top.  But then anything compared to Movie Night would be restrained.

Here are the judges' scores:
  • Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Tango - 24 - the judges' comments seemed to be inconsistent but boiled down to don't force it too much.  I thought she wasn't aggressive enough.  Funny eh?
  • Carson Kressley and Anna Trebunskaya - Jive - 19 - so what that he kept forgetting the steps, it was fun!
  • Nancy Grace and Tristan McManus - Rumba - 22 - Tristan did his usual "I don't care what the theme is, we're just going to dance"-thing and it was successful again.  I think gimmicks won't work with Nancy.  A nice dance.
  • JR Martinez and Karina Smirnoff - Samba - 28 - He's just a really good dancer.
  • Rob Kardashian and Cheryl Burke - Rumba - 25 - I don't buy it.  Rob seemed a little lacking in confidence to me, the judges' scores and comments seemed a bit generous.
  • Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer - Samba - 21 - Chaz is starting to enjoy himself but should be better than this at this stage of the competition.
  • David Arquette and Kym Johnson - Tango - 25 - nice Tango to "Tainted Love" - didn't see that one coming
  • Ricki Lake and Derek Hough - Foxtrot - 24 - I didn't realize it was a Foxtrot until Len mentioned it.  I think Derek was just having fun.  I'd be careful though - the viewers' voting has been wacky this season.
With the shocks so far it's pretty wide open as to who is in danger, with only JR really safe.

80s Week on DWTS

After Movie Night we get Eighties Week.  As well as celebrities dancing to some tunes that are up to 30 years old (can you believe it??) the Bangles will perform a medley of their hits on the performance show.

Then, on the results show, we have Kelly Clarkson (erm she's connected to the 80s?) and The Band Perry (erm, they're connected to the 80s?) and not much of anything to do with the 1980s.

Plus, of course, someone will go home.  They're running out of good dancers to send home so it must be Chaz, Nancy or Carson's turn this week (with due respect to the three of them, who I'm enjoying on the show)!

Who was voted off in Movie Week?

Find out further down the page!

Movie Night Results Show had a bit of a movie theme (duh).

A nice young man sang "Soul Man", Susan Boyle gave us a lovely rendition of "Unchained Melody" accompanied by Peta and Val, Julianne Hough and Kenny Wormald danced to a murdered version of "Holding Out For A Hero" and a spicy version of "Footloose".  Plus Julianne and Derek had a nice brother/sister dance.

On to eliminations!

The first group of three were Ricki/Derek, JR/Karina and Rob/Cheryl.

Ricki - safe (duh)
JR - safe (duh)
Rob - jeopardy

The next group were the bottom three.  Chaz/Lacey, Chynna/Tony and Carson/Anna.

The next couple safe - Chaz/Lacey!
The next is Carson/Anna
Which means Chynna and Tony are in jeopardy.

The final threesome - David/Kym, Hope/Maks and Nancy/Tristan.

The next couple returning - Hope and Maks
Nancy and Tristan...in jeopardy
David/Kym...safe

And we're left with three - Rob, Chynna and Nancy.

Nancy and Tristan - safe

Da, da, daaaah.

Chynna and Tony are eliminated.

Chynna was wonderful.. A great attitude, an early favorite but it wasn't to be.

80s next week!

Relive the Dances From Movie Night

Here are the highlights of the performances on week 4, Movie Night.

It was an unusual night - Chynna forgot her steps, Ricki scored two 10s and lots in between!

Judges' Scores in Week 4 of Dancing with the Stars 13

The scores are a little down the page.

This week was movie week.  The couple danced to an "iconic" movie soundtrack/theme.

Some went a little over the top (I'm looking at you Carson), some played it safe (Nancy) and some were just perfect (JR, Ricki).

Here are the scores:
  • Singer Chynna Phillips & Tony Dovolani - 21 - Chynna seemed to forget the routine and Tony was injured.  Very disappointing.  (Mission Impossible theme)
  • Actor David Arquette & Kym Johnson - 23 - a (slightly) over the top Indiana Jones
  • Reality star Carson Kressley & Anna Trebunskaya - 20 - I thought this was a rather subdued Cap'n Jack Sparrow
  • News Correspondent Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus - 21 - the dance was not connected to the Movie, Flash Gordon, in any discernible way.  But it was a straightforward dance and was just fine.
  • Soccer player Hope Solo & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 24 - nice choreography for Toy Story
  • Reality star Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke - 24 - More Clark Kent than Superman but he danced it well
  • Actress and talk show host Ricki Lake & Derek Hough - 29 - Derek is really good at this.  An amazing Paso to the theme from "Psycho" complete with shower scene at the end
  • Son of Cher Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer - 21 - Chaz as Rocky.  Cher looks on.
  • Actor and hero J. R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff - 26 - Pink Panther.  There was no doubt that Ricki and Derek's was the best performance of the night, but JR showed, again, he is the best dancer technically
So it's going to be close with a lot of scores in the 20-24 range.

Cher Attending Dancing With the Stars for Chaz

Media_httpimg2timeinc_nfrbg

Cher will be in the audience tonight to cheer on her son. She's kept away to make make sure she doesn't eclipse him.

Also supporting Chaz will be his stepmother Mary Bono Mack.

Movie Week and a Busy Results Show

The remaining nine couples will be dancing to a movie score this week.  I guess it's just a way to keep people's interest but it is fun.  It also gives a lead-in to featuring Julianne Hough on the Results Show as she has a movie coming out!

Julianne will be performing with her "Footloose" co-star, Kenny Wormald plus she'll perform a dance with her brother Derek.

The international star this week is Susan Boyle.  She'll be singing Unchained Meolody (from Ghost) with Peta and Val accompanying from the dance floor.

Tuesday, October 4, 2011

The Couple Eliminated in Week 4 are...

...a "page down" away!

The results show had Mary J Blige, Estelle, the promise of Len joining in with the tribute to "The Twist", a surprise guest, Chynna and Tony performing the spotlight dance and a routine to "Gone With The Wind" choreographed by Jonathan Roberts.

It turned out that the surprise guest was Chubby Checker, the singer of "The Twist" who sang with Estelle - nice little surprise there.

To the results:

The first three couples to learn their fate were Ricki/Derek, JR/Karina and Chaz/Lacey.
  • JR was safe.
  • Rick was safe.
  • Believe it or not Chaz was safe!
Chaz was way behind on points so there's going to be an upset!

The next couples are Rob/Cheryl, Carson/Anna, Nancy/Tristan and Hope/Maks.

  • Rob is safe.
  • Carson is in jeopardy.
  • Nancy is safe!!
  • Hope is in jeopardy!!!
Nancy was the next lowest with 21, so it must be Carson?

The final three couples are Kristin/Mark, Chynna/Tony and David/Kym.

  • Chynna is safe.
  • David is safe!
  • Kristin in jeopardy.
So we're left with Carson/Anna (23 points), Hope/Maks (24) and Kristin/Mark (24).

Carson is safe!

And Kristin has been eliminated! Gasps in the ballroom...  Len is disgusted.  Silence/shock from the other couples.

Kristin admitted she was surprised.  She had been getting better but I'm still not convinced people knew who she was.  The reality shows she had been on were at least a couple of years ago.  But she seemed very nice.

Next week is Movie Night and Julianne Hough is on the Results Show.

The Scores in Week 3 - Memorable Year Week

The celebrities had to choose a year that was memorable and choose a song to dance to.  I'm not sure how the dance types were picked but there were too many Rumbas for me.  I don't like the Rumba.

I don't think the celebrities are good enough, in week 3, to do this justice so it can be a bit variable.

Overall the judges seemed to way overmark most of the couples, meaning Chaz needs a miracle to stay in.

Here are the scores:
  • Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke - 24 - getting better every week
  • Chynna Phillips & Tony Dovolani - 26 - lovely performance again
  • Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer - 18 - "best dance I've seen you do" said Len.  True, but unfortunately the score was fair.
  • Kristin Cavallari & Mark Ballas - 24 - good performane but occasionally looked like she was at a wedding reception
  • Carson Kressley & Anna Trebunskaya - 23 - an entertainer, not a dancer
  • J. R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff - 26 - you can't beat JR in terms of the story.  A lovely dance.
  • Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus - 21 - nice little dance
  • Ricki Lake & Derek Hough - 27 - highlighted how good Derek Hough really is at this
  • Hope Solo & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 24 - I did not like that dress, better performance
  • David Arquette & Kym Johnson - 24 - Kym danced around David
An OK night, it's not my favorite theme.

This week on DWTS: "The Most Memorable Year of my Life" and Mary J Blige

We have our first theme week on this season of Dancing with the Stars and it's "The Most Memorable Year of my Life" danced to Latin or Ballroom to a song of their choice.  I'm not a fan of this sort of thing - I just don't think the celebrities are good enough yet to interpret this sort of thing well enough.  Except, perhaps, for JR.

On the results show Mary J Blige will be performing.  She's good.  There'll be a tribute to "The Twist" and to "Gone with the Wind"  (week after next is "Movie Week").

Then someone will be going home!

Tuesday, September 27, 2011

The second couple to be eliminated is...

...further down the page.

The two hour results show continues.  Except the first hour is a countdown to the Live Results show, which is the second hour.

There were some good pieces among the filler, most notably Kym Johnson to David Arquette: "You keep looking at my boobs!" when he wasn't paying attention.

Demi Lovato sang a lovely song and The Script performed too.

The final three left were Chaz, Elisabetta and David.  Tom Bergeron made the point that the last two would be the actual bottom two.

And Chaz and Lacey were safe.  Does that imply they weren't the third lowest couple?

And Elisabetta and Val were eliminated.  Despite improving significantly from last week in terms of judges' scores and just dancing better, Elisabetta still didn't get the votes she needed.  I'm still not quite sure why she was one the show to be honest.  Val will be missed.

Note that David was the second lowest, so he's going to have to do better next week!

Week 2 Scores

Ah, Grumpy Len.  Good to see you again.  The Len that turned up last week was a shadow of his former self, I'm glad you found your way!

As you can guess Len wasn't very happy this week.  It wasn't so much that people were "messin' abaht" it was more directed at the choreography.

This week some people did better than I expected, some did better than I hoped and some did slightly worse.

Here are the judges' scores:

  • Hope Solo & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 19 - didn't get much practice in because of a game.  I thought she was good but kept forgetting the steps.
  • Kristin Cavallari & Mark Ballas - 22 - much better than last week
  • David Arquette & Kym Johnson - 18 - he had fun
  • Elisabetta Canalis & Val Chmerkovskiy - 21 - very much better than last week
  • Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke - 21 - Rob seemed to settle down a bit better this week
  • Carson Kressley & Anna Trebunskaya - 18 - Carson can't dance
  • Ricki Lake & Derek Hough - 23 - very good Jive.  Derek is obviously a good teacher
  • Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer - 17 - this was the slowest Quickstep ever.  Chaz was injured (knees) and was obviously uncomfortable.
  • Chynna Phillips & Tony Dovolani - 21 - Chynna was conservative but still impressive
  • Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus - 21 - she was much better than last week and I actually quick liked her footwork
  • J. R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff - 22 - JR gave the best performance but Carrie Ann marked them down for a lift, and Len marked them down because he said it was a Lindy Hop

JR, Chynna and Ricki are still my picks for the finals.

Demi Lovato Returns to the Ballroom

Demi Lovato returns to Dancing with the Stars on Tuesday's Results Show.  She will perform "Skyscraper" from her latest album, "Unbroken".

Someone called "The Script" (never heard of them, but I'm sure they're very good) will sing a couple of songs,  accompanied by "DWTS" returning pros Dmitry Chaplin and Chelsie Hightower. (I missed them).

Then someone will go home!

Jane Lynch may be saying "never" to a stint on Dancing With the Stars, but another Glee performer wouldn't mind giving it a twirl.
One of the show's big-time guests says that they haven't been asked to be on DWTS, but that may change after producers read this story.
So who's the mirror-ball champ wannabe? Is it Glee Emmy winner Gwyneth Paltrow? Or maybe How I Met Your Mother's Neil Patrick Harris? Oh, perhaps hip-hop diva Eve? Read on to find out...

It's Kristin Chenoweth!

"Sure!" the blond beauty told us earlier this week at a signing of her new CD, Some Lessons Learned, in L.A. when we asked if she'd ever do DWTS. "Hopefully, it'll last for years and years and years and before I'm dead they'll say, 'Hey Kris, you want to come on and do some dancing?'"

"I love the show," she said. "My parents got me involved, how sad is that?...But I like to see people challenge themselves and get better and improve...or not."

She would be great!

The First Couple To Go Home Is...

...further down the page (just in case you didn't want to know.)

Ah Results Show.  I haven't missed you.  It just feels like I'm wasting an hour (well, 58 minutes) of my life, but if I just tuned in at the end it would feel like cheating.

This week we had Harry Connick jr (great guy) and LMFAO, who turned out to be quite good even thought the lyrics of their first song sounded like a "Benny Hill" script.  Bruno and Carrie Ann were dancing on the judges' table to their second song - one of then had their shirt off!

Anyway to get back to RESULTS, they had the stars split into four groups to learn their fates.  Skipping to the end we had Rob, Metta and Nancy.

Rob was safe.

And Metta and Peta were going home.  He would have been fun, but someone had to go.  Nancy looked a little shell-shocked!

Here are the scores on the opening night of Dancing with the Stars season 13:

Basketball player Ron Artest & Peta Murgatroyd - 14
Reality star Rob Kardashian & Cheryl Burke - 16
Reality star Kristin Cavallari & Mark Ballas - 19
Singer Chynna Phillips & Tony Dovolani - 22
News Correspondent Nancy Grace & Tristan MacManus - 16
Actor David Arquette & Kym Johnson - 18
Actress and model Elisabetta Canalis & Val Chmerkovskiy - 15
Soccer player Hope Solo & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 21

Actor and hero J. R. Martinez & Karina Smirnoff - 22
Actress and talk show host Ricki Lake & Derek Hough - 20
Son of Cher Chaz Bono & Lacey Schwimmer - 17

The voting seemed a little on the low side, but there was no inconsistency between the couples. One couple goes home tomorrow!

Harry Connick Jr to Appear on First DWTS Results Show

After the much anticipated performance show tonight there will be two shows tomorrow.

The first will be an hour-long "Dancing with the Stars: Meet the Cast" which will have highlights from the performances and commentary.  Hopefully they'll be doing the hidden microphone stuff again.

Then at 9pm it's the first Results Show!  I'd rather each contestant performed twice before they left (it seems so much work to only dance once!)  I'm not a fan of the Results Show - it can drag so much - but the ones earlier in the season tend to be more interesting.

As well as long pregnant pauses, Harry Connick Jr will be performing - I like him.

Also appearing will be LMFAO.  I haven't come across these people before but I'm sure they'll be very good even though their name is probably a little outdated!

Nancy Grace on 'Dancing With the Stars' Offer: 'I Thought I Was Getting Punk'd'

Interview with Nancy Grace about DWTS.

"I was en route to the courtroom in the car," Nancy said, "and at first, I thought I was getting punk'd. That someone had somehow gotten the Time Warner CNN cell number and was kidding me about doing 'Dancing With the Stars.'"

Only One Surprise Contestant in Dancing with the Stars 13

As I posted earlier @DWTSGossip would get most, if not all, of the new cast of DWTS.  Well they got one wrong - Carson Kressley (the Queer Eye guy).  Either he was a late replacement for Ryan O'Neal or Ryan was a red herring.

Anyway we have some interesting contestants!  Some I'm looking forward to seeing, and some not so much!

Women

  • Soccer player Hope Solo
  • Singer Chynna Phillips
  • Reality star Krisin Cavalleri
  • Model Elisabetta Canalis
  • Actress and talk show host Ricki Lake
  • CNN correspondent Nancy Grace
Men
  • Reality brother Rob Kardashian
  • Cher son Chaz Bono
  • Actor David Arquette
  • Reality star Carson Kressley
  • Actor J. R. Martinez
  • Basketball star Ron Artest (soon to be Metta World Peace)

DWTS 13 Cast Revealed Tonight!

Possible spoilers below

The once a year spike in viewership for "Bachelor Pad" occurs tonight when the cast of the next season of Dancing with the Stars is announced.

Normally it's revealed near the end so I don't think I'll watch the first half.  If I miss it I miss it.

If you believe @DWTSGossip you can see the cast now:

Women

  • Soccer player Hope Solo
  • Singer Chynna Phillips
  • Reality star Krisin Cavalleri
  • Model Elisabetta Canalis
  • Actress and talk show host Ricki Lake
  • CNN correspondent Nancy Grace
Men
  • Reality brother Rob Kardashian
  • Cher son Chaz Bono
  • Actor David Arquette
  • Actor Ryan O'Neal
  • Actor J. R. Martinez
  • Basketball star Ron Artest (soon to be Metta World Peace)
I normally put out my guesses the day of the reveal but given their track record the above are probably most, if not all, correct.  At least I don't have to watch all of Bachelor Pad!!

Dancing with the Stars Rumor Power Rankings

There are (as always!) lots of rumors as to who is on a new season of DWTS.  In fact, in some ways, it's the best part of the show!

They all get mixed together with wannabes complicating things, some stars negotiating for future seasons and, of course, the negotiations might not get anywhere.

I have found that at least 2 celebrities per season are the subject of rumors for previous seasons so there are probably discussions going on all the time.

This time the rumoprs seem to come in spurts and as we get closer they are coming out of the woodwork thick and fast.  So here are the "main" rumors I'm aware of with a ranking of how likely they may be.  I'm sure I've missed a lot out and I'm certain some of these are plain wrong!  If you know of any more, or disagree with the ranking let me know in the comments.

Almost certain

1. Hope Solo - as well as being the subject of rumors, Hope actually tweeted to Maks "What do I need to do for Sunday? Help!" and then deleted it minutes later.  One assumes she meant to DM him.

Strong Possibilities

2. Chaz Bono - the son of Cher and Sonny Bono is high in the tabloid rumor rankings.  He followed Karina Smirnoff and then unfollowed her.
3. Rob Kardashian - Rob has been a strong rumor for a while and without any denials looks to be set up for the show
4. Christina Milian - Christina has been rumored for a while and pulls very strange faces when asked about the show!
5. David Arquette - a late entrant, David is reported to have started rehearsal with Kym Johnson

Possibles

6. Candace Cameron Bure - Candace was a rumor for season 12 and seems to be playing it coy.
7. Chynna Phillips - the singer was rumored a while ago and has not denied anything.  She also tweeted that she would be spending some time in California.
8. Dinah Lohan - reported to have told people she was in discussions.  They could have fell through though.
9. Kristin Kavalari - the reality star from the Hills has been rumored for a while.
10. Elisabetta Canalis - The ex-girlfriend of George Clooney was mentioned too close to their break-up to my mind.  I'm not sure she's in.

Outside chances

11. Henry Winkler - Henry was a rumored contestant last year but when, in June, he said he would never go on the show we assumed he wouldn't.  However, a couple of tweets could mean otherwise.
12. Jenna Jameson - the ex-porn star is rumored to be appearing and follows some of the DWTS cast, but I can't believe ABC would want her on such a family show. (I sure she's a very nice person.)
13. Kelly Preston - Kelly was in the audience fior her friend Kirstie Alley and was rumored to have "auditioned".  Nothing has been heard since
14. Ryan O'Neal - a late entrant, Ryan was a rumor for season 11.  There are rumors again.
15. Donnie Wahlberg - after appearing in the "Guily Pleasures" week last season he seemed interested but nothing recently

(A lot of the information comes from PureDWTS.com and @DWTSGossip.  Thanks to them.)

So, who have I missed?

Clooney's Ex, Elisabetta Canalis on DWTS?

E! Online is reporting that George Clooney's ex-girlfriend, Elisabetta Canalis, is set to appear in season 13.

Elizabetta is an Italian model but other than he relationship with George doesn't seem to have much to attract the US audience (apart from the obvious).

I'm not sure about this - it's a bit like the Brooke Mueller rumor from last season.

Less than two weeks until we find out the cast!

Queen Latifah Confirms She Won't Be On DWTS

Last week TMZ announced that Queen Latifah, Snooki and Tiffany Thiessen were appearing in season 13 of dancing with the Stars.

Tiffany replied almost immediately that she won't be on.  Today Queen Latifah tweeted her rebuttal:
No truth to the rumors of me doing Dancing With The Stars. Love the show though so I'll be watching just like you!
Snooki hasn't officially said no, but early last week she did say "if asked" so I'm not sure she is true either.

Queen Latifah would have been great!

Only two weeks until we find out for sure!

Season 13 Celebrities to be Announced August 29th

Yeah, I'm late to the party but it was good to hear a date for the announcement of the celebrities in season 13 of DWTS.

Tom Bergeron tweeted that he and Brooke Burke will announce the show LIVE on Monday, August 29.

I assume that will be included in an episode of "Bachelor pad" which seems to be standard procedure now.

The season kicks off September 19th which only gives the couples three weeks to practice.  Plus the first results show is the 20th so the first celebrity will be gone in 22 days!

Dina Lohan says she's in talks to appear on Dancing with the Stars

The New York Post is reporting that Dina Lohan, Lindsay's mother, was overheard at a party saying she was in talks to appear in Dancing with the Stars.

This isn't the first time she has been suggested as a possible candidate, but there's no way of knowing if it's wishful thinking or there are full-scale negotiations.

Obviously she is an "incidental" celebrity because of her daughter. The same way as Bristol Palin got on the show I guess.

The Champions of Dancing with the Stars Are..

...further down the page.

As a reminder the points going into tonight's finale were Hines/Kym
59, Chelsea/Mark 59 an Kirstie/Maks 54.

The finale was two hours long and was preceeded by an encore
performance of last night's show that my son insisted on watching so,
believe it or not, I'm a little Bergeron-ed out!

Here are some observations:

- I wish Mike Catherwood had stayed around longer - he would have been fun!
- I particularly like Chris Jericho and Romeo
- those hidden microphones are a fantastic invention - they actually
add reality to a show that's "reality" in name only.
- it's not a good idea to crowd-design a dance. Although it was nice
to see those soccer ladies that call themselves the GoGos.
- the couples all got thirties for their final performances which
meant Kirstie wasn't as far behind as after two dances
- Chelsea and Mark finished third. I liked them both and as a couple
but I just can't shake the feeling there was favoritism involved.
- Kirstie and Maks were second. Amazing performances from someone her
age and (at least initially) size
- therefore Hines and Kym were crowned champions as expected. I don't
think Hines had a bad week and just kept getting better!

Not the best season but an enjoyable one nevertheless.

Dancing with the Stars Finals: Judges' Scores for First Two Dances

Ah, here we are.  We've survived Maks almost breaking his knee, Kirstie losing a shoe, Kendra's cycle, Chris Jericho's English accent and Kym almost breaking her neck.  Yep, it's been a pretty quiet season.

The Monday of the finals is a little bit of an anti-climax for me.  The freestyles are great but only an hour after nine weeks of time-filling seems a little paltry, and then they show The Bachelorette to top it off.

The couples danced Judges' Choice (the dances the judges felt best "expressed their potential") and Freestyle.

Here are the scores:

Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas - 29 & 30 = 59
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 27 & 27 = 54
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson - 29 & 30 = 59

  • Chelsea and Mark did just fine.  Their Samba was excellent.  The Freestyle was technically great but it seemed a bit empty, there didn't seem to be  lot of audience feedback or participation.  Both scores were about right.
  • Kirstie and Maks were lucky to get 27 for their Samba I felt.  In the finals the judges normally give 9 or 10 it seems.  There Freestyle was amazing.  Not as good technically as the others' but the choreography was better and it was simply the best performance.  And it got 27.  Hmmm.
  • Hines and Kym did as well as expected and seem to be a lock for the title.  Their Freestyle was a little too Marching Band for me.
Over the seasons of DWTS I've always taken the conspiracy theories with a pinch of salt.  I do believe people would have voted for Kate Gossilin just to watch the train wreck, that Bristol got a lot of votes from Republican activists and that the judges sometimes got it wrong.  But after last week's Winner Take All Dance that gave the winner (Chelsea) a free pass into the final I wasn't so sure.  And tonight the scoring for Kirstie was just wrong.  The judges looked embarrassed and seemed to agree with the booing. Perhaps the Producers want the Disney kid to win?  I have to say it has spoiled the season for me.

Hey ho.

Tomorrow night's two hour finale sees one more dance from the couples plus the ubiquitous Black Eyed Peas, the GoGos and Sara Evans.

Dancing with the Stars - Season 12 Finale Details

After a long road we're almost there.  Two more shows and we'll find out the winner of the Mirror Ball Trophy.

On Monday the couples dance twice.

The first dance is assigned by the judges based on their view of which dance each couple should excel in.  Then there is the always popular freestyle dance.  (The show is only on for an hour).

The season finale is two hours of look-backs, re-appearances, some more competitive dance and the awarding of said trophy.  The couples will perform their favorite dances of the season and be scored by the judges.  Those scores will be incorporated into the scores from the previous night and the viewers' vote.

The musical guests are the Black Eyed Peas who seem to be on all the big finales/award shows and Superbowls.

Also appearing are the Go-Gos and Sara Evans.

The Finalists of Season 12 of Dancing with the Stars...

...are revealed further down the page.

The pre-Results Show show was about previous freesyle dances in the finals.  Drew Lachey returned to perform with Cheryl.  And previous winners talked us through their dances - Brooke Burke, Apolo Ohno and Donny Osmond.  I have no idea what else happened.

The results show was pretty much the same formula as the rest of the season.  A main guest singing twice, another guest singing once and either  Macy's Stars of Dance or something to tug on our heartstrings.

Tonight we had Stevie Nicks who was very good singing the classic "Landslide" and a new tune from her new album.  We also had Pittbull featuring Ne-Yo and Nayer performing his single, "Give Me Everything" - they were very good too.  We also had a young ballerina who had some sort of disease who's alleged dream was to dance with Lacey Schwimmer and Chelsie Hightower - which she did.

Early on Hines and Kym were told they were in the finals - Duh!

Half-way through Chelsea and Mark were told they were in the final.  Double Duh - they got the 15 points from the bonus Cha Cha!

Ralph and Kirstie were left on the stage at the end.

And, as most expected, Ralph and Karina were eliminated.

I say this a lot about eliminatees but Ralph really was a nice guy.  I felt he didn't build upon his skill as quickly as others but he always put his heart in it.

The celebrities in the final are Hines, Chelsea and Kirstie.  Who will win??

Will Ralph Macchio Be Eliminated Tonight on DWTS?

If you do the math, Ralph and Karina are in a bit of a hole when it comes to share of the judges' vote:

Chelsea/Mark 73 31.1%
Hines/Kym 60 25.5%
Kirstie/Maks 54 23.0%
Ralph/Karina 48 20.4%

But wait!  Last week Ralph was at the bottom of the judges' scoreboard because he was hurt and couldn't move too well - and he wasn't eliminated!

I think it's different this week.  First off, Chelsea and Mark are so far ahead that they're a lock to be in the final.  It would be beyond stunning if they were eliminated.

Secondly, due to Kym's brush with a broken neck there will be a sympathy vote for the couple.  This was something Ralph enjoyed last week when he was injured.

So that means it's between Ralph and Kirstie.  I had some comments about people getting busy tone when they voted for Hines or Kirstie, so I headed over to dialidol.com.

Dialidol.com came out of American idol.  It's a little program that runs on a PC and uses the phone to vote a number of times for a particular contestant. It takes the data and assumes that the contestant with the highest percentage of busy tone has the most votes.  It's not that good at predicting DWTS because the sample size is small and you have the judges' votes as well.  However, if you look at the raw data Hines and Kirstie had a high percentage of busy tones (18% and 16% respectively), Ralph and Chelsea had very low percentages (1% and 4%).

So, I have to think Ralph will be eliminated.  Who do you think will go?

Scores in the Semis of DWTS

Week 9 is semi-final week.  The couples danced a Latin and a Ballroom they hadn't danced before.  Plus, there is a head to head Cha Cha.

"What's a head to head Cha Cha?" I hear you ask.  Well two couples dance 15 seconds of Cha Cha and the judges pick the winner.  The other two couples dance and the judges pick the winners.  Then the winners go head to head and the judges pick the overall winner.  And they get a bonus 15 points.  Cha-ching.

Speaking of head-head, Kym Johnson danced despite her neck injury.  I suspect they are going to get some sympathy votes from the viewers if the studio audience are anything to go by!

Here are the scores:

Ralph Macchio and Karina Smirnoff - 25 & 23 = 48
Hines Ward and Kym Johnson - 30 & 30 = 60
Chelsea Kane and Mark Ballas - 28 & 30 & 15* = 73
Kirstie Alley and Maksim Chmerkovskiy - 27 & 27 = 54

*Chelsea and Mark won the head-head.
  • Ralph really didn't seem that engaged this week - perhaps some after-effects from his injury.
  • I felt Hines and Kym were slightly over marked but hey, she deserves it.
  • Chelsea and Mark were perky as always, the judges seemed a bit down on their first dance
  • Kirstie is still doing amazingly well, and she's 60!
Ralph is obviously in the hole with the only other couple in danger being Kirstie and Maks.

Stevie Nicks tomorrow!

Semi-Finals Details For DWTS

Now that we know Kym Johnson will be appearing, we can look forward to
the semi-final!

On Monday the four remaining couples will perform three routines - one
ballroom and one Latin dance they've not yet done, and one
winner-takes-all Cha Cha. Sounds like whoever wins the Cha Cha is a
lock for the finals.

The first part of the Results Show is a "Freestyle Special," in which
Anton Ohno, Donnie Osmond and Warren Sapp provide color commentary on
their memorable individual freestyle routines.  In addition, the pros
and the dance troupe perform two medleys to some of the music from
previous Freestyles.

On the Results Show Stevie Nicks (woo hoo!) will perform two songs,
"Landslide," accompanied by Tony and Cheryl on the dance floor, and
the new single "Secret Love" from "In Your Dreams" - accompanied by
Dmitry, Anna, Peta and Damian. Also Pittbull featuring Ne-Yo and Nayer
performs his single, "Give Me Everything".

Oh, and we'll find out the finalists!

Kym Johnson Cleared to Dance On Monday

Despite having to wear a neck brace for the immediate future, Kym Johnson has been cleared to perform on the show on Monday according to WJLA TV.

Earlier on Friday she fell while practicing with Hines Ward. An ambulance was called and she was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

I must admit I was worried!

Who Was Eliminated in an Instant in "Instant Dance" Week?

The first hour of the Results Show (technically it was two shows but they just blurred together) were highlights of previous results shows.  This is how bad it's become.  Highlights of shows that are mainly highlights.  Sheesh.

Having said that I thoroughly enjoyed Derek and Julianne Hough's "Great Balls of Fire" dance in season 7!

On to the Results Show proper.  I was thoroughly confused.  Adele wasn't singing all the songs she was supposed to but someone called Delta was filling in with an hour's notice.  They were both very, very good though.

Kirstie and Maks were asked to do the spotlight dance.  I figured they were definately leaving because I couldn't remember if they'd done a spotlight dance before.  Anyway I didn't have to think for long because both Kirste and Hines were safe!  That meant another 40 minutes until more results!

Oh, I forgot Dancecenter was on - Iit was funny in an understated way as always.  As Tom Bergeron said on Monday - "Throughout the years we've had some very good dancers and some very bad dancers.  And we've had Kenny Mayne."  That Tom.

At the end Chelsea, Ralph and Romeo are on the stage with their partners.

Chelsea and Mark are safe.

And Rome and Karina have been eliminated.  Romeo felt it was his best performance and I agree with him.  Ralph was (understandably) not very good and should have gone home.  I think Romeo enjoyed his journey and I enjoyed watching him.  "New York, New York" was one of my favorite dances ever.

Next week is the semi-final!
